Don't answer the question guys, it'll be used against cyclists in evidence of some straw man argument or another !

It's an old one I'm sure we have all seen before, but Yes that guy was definately a lunatic.

I mean, filming someone on your mobile phone whilst driving is just stupid carry on. He should loose his licence.

The angle of the shots would suggest it's a passenger in a LHD car.

I passed a cyclist on the M50 on Saturday, between the Cherrywood and Carrickmines exits I think.

So, so dangerous. More than the video above.

If you read boards, you sir are a complete tool.

It's an old one. Would be more interested in what sort of gearing he was using. Even with a 53x11 combo you'd need mad spinning skills to get anywhere near 90km/h.

    Pity it wasn't a Cinzano truck…

Well Fred went nearly 3 times as fast ;)

(but he used double reduction gearing - 70x13 combined with 60x15)

Looks like it's a RHD car to be honest, going by the fact it's on the right hand side of the road, and not the left.

Ie, if it was LHD there should be a lane of traffic in the opposite direction on the right of the truck/gob****e

one touch of the brakes (either the truck or the cyclist) and it would be game over at that speed.

Eh RHD = steering wheel on the RHS of the car, LHD = steering wheel on the LHS of the car. Usual configuration is the steering wheel is on the side nearest the center of the road, i.e in Ireland we tend to use RHD cars but drive on the left

when you read that, it looks like he was going 268 thousand miles per hour.

    Fred Rompelberg,
    Maastricht, the Netherlands,
eldest professional cyclist in the world,
current holder of the Absolute Speed World Record Cycling
    with 268,831 km/h.

them bleeding continental heads and their use of comma's instead of decimal points!!

I think this was posted here before and it was claimed that the cyclist's friend was driving the lorry and they were working together.

    Still dangerous though.

This looks like it's on a long down hill, he's probably only tailgating so the truck will get out of the fast lane! :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,221 ✭✭✭A_Sober_Paddy

Cycling without a helmet in this instance is an irrelevant thing...If the truck was to suddenly break, the cyclist is going to be seriously injured if not killed, unless he was wearing a motor bike helmet, it wouldn't make a difference

Psycho, but I gotta assume it's a set up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,874 ✭✭✭Zyzz

Ive done the same with a Dublin Bus..obviously not as fast and not for the same time frame but I think I hit close to 65km/h with little effort as I was right up its arse!

Edit: 67.6km/h was the max speed I reached..on a flat road

There is bus stop on the right side of the road at the start of the clip. So steering has to be on left in that country.

You'll notice when he pans down to the speedo that he also pans left.

Driver on the left, cameraman on the right, idiot on the bike.
