    Warm wind, mountain road
    Slow climb through sunlit forest
    Cycling is freedom

    Sweat soaked, throat is raw
    I refuse to say enough
    Cycling is prison

    Home from ride,
Climbed the stairs and closed the curtain
Legs are stiff and balls are hurtin'

    Bought a bike on donedeal.
It came with a buckled front wheel.
    I went for a spin,
    Crashed into a bin.
When will my broken head heal?

    My sandwich and flask
Climb with me all the way to
    High Tea on Alpe d’Huez

I bought the bike to get out and relax
But now I have to face the facts.
I pedaled to fast , I pedaled to slow,
In a gear to high or a gear to low

Keep your elbows in,Do'nt let your knees turn out,
When ya take a drink, don't wobble about,
Hold your line ,Keep that wheel
Now at the alter of the racer I kneel

    Rose are Red
    Violets are Blue
    That bunch up the road
    has just dropped you.

My lyrical powers are on par with my cycling skillz.

    Grinding this incline
Sweat blinds. Descent coaxes me on,
    Chills my brow and heart.

I got me the bike and I got me the gear
If I wanna go faster gotta cut down the beer.
That's not gonna happen as far as I know
So I'm gonna settle for being fat & slow.

Without you I am little more than a work of art,
I can't even stand, let alone swoop or dart.

I am just an adornment, engineered bling,
Beautiful, but a stationary, lightweight thing.

You are my balance, my engine, my guide.
Together we are as one, an incredible ride.

If there is any justice in this world this one should be shortlisted for the 1st Annual Boards.ie Cycling Poetry Award. I find myself once again near the back of the peloton. Hang On!! I feel a verse coming on, something about Lantern Rouge. Maybe there's hope yet:)
