I know this has been done to death on many threads before and I'm not looking to re-invent the wheel here, its mostly for a discussion offline. But can someone point me to the CONGU/GUI link or info which says (and I'm paraphrasing here) that you shouldn't really be able to play to your handicap and/or that you should play to your handicap only on your best day as opposed to your average day ?

I've had a search and just can't find it amongst the old threads. I have the definition of handicap one which states its your average ability etc etc but want to get the others for comparison.

    Cheers

If your handicap was your average round score it would constantly be falling as the rounds over get cut more than the rounds below or a buffer zone.

i.e. The Model predicts that a 5.8 handicap player, if correctly handicapped, would be expected have a Nett of the MGD of 3.2 (that is they play on average 3.2 shots over handicap); a player handicap 15.5 is expected to play 5.5 over; a 25.7 player 7.3 over. [It should be noted that a detailed analysis of over 9,000 scores from all Handicap Categories shows good agreement (within 1/2 a shot) between the Model and what happens in practice].

To check the calculation the approximation
    nett MGD (Target) = 0.237FH+1.57
should give a result within 0.05 of the program.
Example: Player has a year-end handicap of 15.5.
    Their Target would be: 0.237*15.5+1.57 = 5.24
