I've seen the news reports and read this

but the likes of the travel department are still offering trips there.
    Is it safe?

    Where in Egypt?

Bear in mind it's a pretty big country. What's happening in Cairo will have practically zero impact on the holiday resorts at the Red Sea for example which is 7/8 hours drive away.

I was in a similar predicament this time last year. Buffybot is right, outside Cairo it should be business as usual. My biggest worry was them taking the money 2 months in advance, then cancelling due to political unrest. The Travel Dept confirmed that the insurance they themselves offer does not cover this eventuality (Or did not 12 months ago at any rate.....)

Ended up getting cover with multitrip and paid slightly more for travel company cancellation due to political upheaval etc. Peace of mind at least.

To see the Pyramids. That's what I figured.

    Thanks for the replies.
