visa and stamping in ireland for non-Eu citizens

    Hi,
I am an Indian citizen. I have a valid UK work visa and a valid Ireland business visa (I got both my visas on my passport in India itself before coming to Belfast). When I travelled from Belfast to Dublin by bus there was no checking at border and hence no stamp on my passport with respect to my stay here in ireland. Should I goto any Irish immigration office to get my passport stamped by the immigration officials? Is it legal for me to stay in ireland without my passport stamped by immigration office though I have a valid Irish business visa? Thanks and regards
    Ram

I believe you have to go to the GNIB office as you are not entitled to enter unrecorded. As there is no border post, a trip to the office on Burgh Quay (iirc) is required. A bit of a pain but no trauma.

Your situation is answered by the provisions in s.4(5) of the Immigration Act, 2004, which requires that a person landing in Ireland other than by sea or by air (i.e. coming from Northern Ireland), and in possession of a business visa, must:

    (i) report in person to the registration officer for the place in which he or she intends to reside,

(ii) produce to the officer a valid passport or other equivalent document, issued by or on behalf of an authority recognised by the Government, which establishes his or her identity and nationality, and

(iii) furnish such information as the officer may reasonably require regarding the purpose of his or her arrival in the State.

So yes, you must attend your local GNIB office, wherever it is that you are residing in this state.
