    Hello

    What's people's view of the 5 door Audi A5?

    I'm looking at a 2010 model (2 litre diesel).

I'm not an expert but I like the marque and the look of the A5.

    Many thanks.

    Stunning looking cars!

Seeing as they are taxed on emissions would you not go for a 3.0 tdi V6?

It would be a far nicer car

    Could do - Thanks!

Assumed that the tax on the 3 litre would be huge but you're right.

    Nice one.

There are a lot of very low spec models about. Make sure you get a decent spec that is desirable when you decide to sell it on.

    Surely you meant:

"Make sure you get a decent spec that is desirable and fits YOUR needs" (even if for example your mileage may not actually warrant a diesel  :p)

I certainly have never bought a car for the next owner - I buy it for me! :)

But then every car I've sold was a trade-in anyway rather than a private sale so not as big an issue. EG: The Passat was/is in excellent shape but it was the mileage that made the difference rather than the number of toys that determined the value. Equally it'll be the tax of my 3L A6 (old system) that will define what I'll get for it even though it has a very high spec really... but those worries (like property values/negative equity) are only a factor when it comes time to sell.

Anyway, good choice OP.. all the best with the test drives :)

The A5 is still a nice car but somewhat dated now. The 2l Tdi is a fast and smooth engine but the 3l quattro is the one to go for if funds allow.

    The diesel one, yeah?

Will take a look. Had circa €25k in mind but would go higher if there's a material difference.

How much miles are you doing a year, and what sort of driving (mostly city/motorway etc).

If it's low miles and mostly urban driving you may be better off with a petrol as modern diesels don't react well to that sort of usage.

    Very low mileage.

In and out of the city centre from the suburbs every day and once in a blue moon somewhere further afield for a bit of R&R.

Yes, Ive driven the diesel and its very smooth and quick. The handling is slightly 'false', which may or may not matter but the quattro version may sort that out though. They still look very well but the dash is showing its age.

Still a very nice motor though, good luck with it.

    I'm a dunce vis a vis cars - That's petrol, yeah?

Will it not eat the juice and be towards the top end tax wise?

    Thanks.

When I'm buying I go for the best spec I can get for my money. I just parted with a BMW 3 Series and got above the going rate for it because of the spec it had leather, factory Sat Nav, Bluetooth, etc., condition was obviously a factor too but it was the desirable spec that sold it in the end.

If I wanted a low spec car then I would not be paying premium money that comes with the likes of an A5 unless it had a desirable spec. There are a good few A5s out there that don't even have a multifunction steering wheel.

Out of curiosity - what would you consider low spec?

Jaysus. I wouldn't have even thought you could get an A5 as badly/lowly specced as that!

Ladies and gentlemen.. the above car is a perfect example of badge/reg plate over all! :(

Fair enough. Must be a UK import then. 2 of the above 3 items were standard on irish models at launch. Leather was added for the PI later on.

90% + of A5 models sold are SE or S Line models which are really well equipped and actually above UK versions.
