    Hi folks,
I found previous threads that mentioned just "TV Repairs" but they were old and I have a flat screen.
Need to know if there is anyone who fixes them around the city/ county?
Everything works, except the analog signal from satellite on roof. Works on other test tvs in the house.
    Thanks

Is the tuner in the telly Saorview compatible?

Edit: Wait now, analog signal from a satellite???

What do you mean by Analog?
Are you connecting the satellite box to the TV via scart?
Or are you trying to receive actual analog Satellite transmission?

Are you connecting the Satellite feed directly to the TV? If you are does the TV have a built in DVB-S tuner?
Or are you using a receiver via scart?

the analog signal was switched off, it's not there any more. if your tv doesn't have a digital tuner you;ll need an external box.

your tv is not broken, you don;t need it repaierd

Sorry, to be clearer, there is a tv aerial on the roof (You know the metal ones on the chimney) and there is a coax cable that drops from the roof into the bedroom.
This gave me Saroview on the TV, however, that stopped working. The HDMI and scart still work. I can't explain why the coax port stopped working. So I think that it might need repairing. I don't know when either as it is not the main TV, tried it about a month ago for first time in ages and it wasn't working.

Apologies for confusion and thanks for replies!

How old is the TV? Does the TV actually have a Saroview compatible tuner though? TVs have had digital tuners for a number of years but only in the last few years did they become Saroview compatible.

Hi Bazz, I was able to watch Saorview at the end of last year though? I would have thought that if I could watch Saorview last year that it is compatible no?
The TV is about 4 - 5 years old...

Have you another TV to test it on? That would at least rule out the issue being with the aerial.

analog signal was only switched off early this year, worked fine until then. have you tried doing a full retune on hte tv, including digital channels? if the tv is tuned to the analog channels, even if it has a digital tuner it will need a retune to find the digitals

what's hte tv model number and it will be easy tell if it has a digital tuner

I'll post back the model number this evening.
@Bazz, yes, the main TV in the house works fine from the same wire/ aerial.
I am fairly sure that I tried re tuning also but will have another go this evening.

Well retuning the TV with the Analog tuner will get you nothing as the signal is switched off as a few others have said.
When you go into the tuner menu you should have an option for Analog(Which no longer works) and for DVB-T or Digital.
Select Digital and run the autoscan if the TV has a compatible Mpeg-4 tuner it will tune in all the available channels, if you have an older model TV that only does Mpeg-2 you will still find all the channels but you won't get any video only audio.
As it stands I don't think you need a TV repair man rather you just need to retune the channels via the DVB-T tuner.
But be aware that on a 5y.o Samsung set the chances are high that the TV isn't saorview compatible, but the model number will let us know either way.

Thanks Banie, will get that information later.
Would be good news actually if it was just a signal issue rather than a TV issue!

The advice given by the_syco on retuning is spot on.
As it stands we don't actually know there is anything at all wrong with the TV.

Will try the retuning thing in next 2 hours or so!

    No dice Syco!
I knew I had done that previously.
To give you an idea, I brought the tv into the main room where the other saorview is on the 50 inch, took the wire from the 50inch and plugged into this 32 inch, did exactly as she said in the video. No channels found.
Would reinstalling the firmware do anything or should I just give the repair guy a ring?

When you run the DTV scan are you finding any channels at all?
    Even Audio?

    Nothing

Replacing a DVB tuner in the TV will most likely not be possible.
Given that the tuner module is likely integrated with other components it may be a case of a repair meaning a replacement mainboard and that will cost more than a new 32'' tv.
An easy and cheap workaround would be something like this and there are HDMI versions available too for more cash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

Sound Banie, I was thinking that alright because the other slots work, HDMI, Scart etc.
I could just plug the lead into the scart box and the scart box into the TV.
I think I will go with that!
Thanks for all of your help folks. I actually don't think i'll bother getting it repaired so

Sorry for digging out my old thread but only now am I getting around to getting this scart/ dvb-t thing.

What is the crucial detail I am looking for when trawling through sites to find one? I am going to get a handy cheap one because I am going to move the tv into the spare bed room and have Saorview only on it.

Will one of these two here & here work for me?

I have already got the indoor home aerial

    Thanks

    won;t work. it's mpeg2. saorview needs mpeg4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

    ok, got it.
That is the detail I needed to be aware of.
    Thanks for that Mossy

    What about this one?
    Or anything from this list?

I want to use that site now - another boardsie has given me a $10 discount code and I don't mind the wait. The cheaper the better as it will be an unused unit in general but if someone stays over, then they will have some saorview tv

    Thanks

Keep away from the lot, they are not fully saorview compatible, they mite work today but you are not guaranteed going forward if Saorview change settings or ad features that the product will work correctly.

You will not get a proper tv guide or get teletext on the product without a proper box that HAS Mpeg4 for tv reception and MHEG5 engine needed for text and guide.

So none of them will do it. What am I to do so? I have a tv that will cost too much to repair the standard aerial port and I need something handy that will go into the scart port...open to recommendations.

Edit. Feck it. I bought it. There is a chap on adverts with the exact same box for sale and he says it works and has good feedback.

Thanks folks. I will post back so others may benefit in future

I said I would post back on this one.
So I bought that one from dealextreme

There are two channels that do not work. RTE1 & RTE2
Some error about not HD compatible or something.
RTE1 + 1 works fine. So all really missing is RTE2.

The menu and EPG is grand also.

Your receiver needs DVB-T2 capability for RTE1 and RTE2. That box is not HD compatible as you typed yourself.

Yeah. Its grand other than that problem. Its for a spare room anyway so not a big problem. Thanks for input.

Some years ago there were Sky Picnic DTT receivers on the market, for a UK service that never launched. Some people purchased them here but when RTÉ2 HD launched they failed to display the channel, the SD channels were OK.

The problem was the MPEG-4 video compression profile used, the Sky receivers only had MPEG4 HP@L3 capability but RTÉ2 HD used MPEG4 HP@L4, so no RTÉ2 HD.

The specs for that receiver (DVB-T8806) indicates it has "MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 HP@L4" but it appears not to be so.

No. Saorview does not use DVB-T2. You must be thinking of the HD profile of MPEG4, mentioned in the previous post.
