Over 700 deaths in the U.k.
Surely (per capita) we should be having at least dozens of heat related deaths.
Check up on your elderly neighbours. Do their shopping/messages etc.
It's not just cold that kills.

Dozens of members of a support group for a condition I have have been hospitalised over the past fortnight. Some of those at the worst end of the illness spectrum probably won't recover if this continues much longer.

Plenty of other conditions would be similarly exacerbated by the heat. I have no doubt there have been deaths here because of the heat.

10'000 died during a heatwave in France a few years ago.
Mostly elderly people dying of stroke as their kids and grandkids were on holidays at the beach.

"If the water is too deep to stand in, stay out" What's the fucking point in being able to swim?

Hopefully I'll drown like a fucking cunt or get run over by a tractor before I die of hayfever.

Stay safe everyone. It's easy to get complacent in this weather.

More people cannot swim than can, if you are in shallow enough water then it lessens the risk of drowning, although you can drown in a foot of water but seeing people going into deep water thinking they'll be grand and they not having a clue how to swim is just a recipe for disaster.

Big loss. There are already far too many people in the world. No room for sentiment.

I could never understand why people swim in quarries ? for some reason I always think the water is dirty.

Swimming lessons should be part of school curriculum.

It's fine until people/farmers start using it as dumping ground.

I don't know what the joke is, if I'm honest.

In regards to family members reading this thread, how bloody wierd would that be? I know it's a possibility and all but the thought of it baffles me.

'My x or y just drowned. Oh a thread on drownings.' etc etc just seems like an odd thought process.

Not the point though anyway. I didn't find it funny or anything.

The point is he used a thread about people drowning to try (and fail) to be funny and get thanks or a pat on the back or something. He reads a post about people dying and all he thinks is 'Oh there's a mistake in that sentence, let's point it out in a very distasteful way'

Lets be honest. We're all cranky in this heat.
