What exactly is up with these cameras? As in what are they for? I was driving around a few months ago and I could have sworn the damn thing flashed at me.

I live near a busy road and the camera is positioned a few doors down from me but the damn thing just seems to be angled at my house and never on the main road? Could I make some kind of complaint?

I was watching a live link-up on St Patricks Day from a CCTV camera in Temple Bar.
Bizarre thing was I was able to hear peoples private conversations in the street.

Must be due to all the visitors you are getting all the hours of the day and night.

Either that or time to get a tin foil hat.

Did it have a big lens behind it's trench coat?

Seriously, what do you think it's for? Will I get some illustrated cards out?

Um, I think it's for combatting crime.
Not for observing law-abiding residents leaving their house.
Did you even read the O.P?

If I may step in here .... its the 'Mericans watching you .
They obviously think your that Snowden bloke who lost the keys to the White House.

Make yourself your own camera bigger than theirs and point at them.

You could make a complaint but let's be honest nothing is likely to come about from it.

But you are best off not posting this here in After Hours. You would get more positive replies else where on boards.

those cameras are put up and paid or by the councils and monitored by the gardai,
do you really think two such large and incompetent organisations are capable of orchestrating a conspiracy against you?
it didn't flash at you, you are wrong , or mental or both

It defo flashed at me. I driving toward my garden and I noticed a camera flash. It actually frightened me as it was dark (bout 10pm).

I'm not trying to claim they are orchestrating a conspiracy against me but the camera has been angled towards my house the last few days. I only noticed this because I am doing a bit of work on a car in my front garden.

I mean you'd think it'd be recording footage from the main road, Instead of the little road I live on.

If it flashed its a traffic camera, if its a Garda camera then it wont have a flash, what would be the point of a flash?

A camera that can monitor conversations is still a violation of privacy, no? Public or not.

That webstreaming camera in Templebar isn't a Garda camera.

Are you sure that it was not a google streetview car that had broken down?

I think that makes it even worse to be honest.
Surely this a breach of privacy.
Why hasn't the Council removed it?

Their is a similar camera angled on my house from a nearby premises. One day my neighbours rose-plants were damaged and a few Gardaí went to view said cctv and found out those responsible.

Now, when someone entered my family home/front patio; stripped off down to his boxers while being drunk and broke an expensive vase in same patio (same person who was actually a practising solicitor in our town); I was informed they cannot view that same cctv.

Don't know if they all needed eye-care and/or did not know the procedure involved when wanting to do so (eventhough it was done for a neighbour no hassle who works in the E.S.) and /or could not be bothered doing some actual work.
Either way, nothing was done by our local finest Gardaí! The costs were redeemed by us ourselves as we knew the person involved and spoke with him direct and addressed his drunken antics.

Anyone related to AGS reading here who knows me; you'll have no problem contacting me in writing about this should you wish to apologise for not doing your jobs!

    Many Thanks,
    kerry4sam

Under the freedom of information act you may request to review any footage in which you are recorded. You may even request a copy of said footage for a nominal fee. Most Garda monitored cameras are simply live feeds and are not hooked up to DVR's. The position of the camera may seem inappropriate to you but if you were to see the image it captures it is most likely not looking at you at all. Unless of course you are infact a master criminal of some description. Even at that it won't be looking onto your property And if it somehow was you can object and have it repositioned.

    Glazers Out!

Maybe OP you could consider it as an extra form of security for yourself? We have had some suspicious visitors floating around here, and would have welcomed a camera catching footage of their activities around our house?

see, i'm only a young lad and I do be floating around at all hours of the night. Last night I ended up going to mcdonalds at 2 this morning, I'm always going out late like that, It gives me a bit of a buzz:p. I'd hate to think they are looking at me on the camera and making notes lol..

Face recognition software and camera tech is so advanced that if profiled you can be picked out of a crowd a half a mile away.

You'd be amazed at the clarity of cameras and the zoom ability of PTZ cameras. Pan / tilt / zoom.

At the lights on major junctions it's tech possible to see people on mobile phones etc and its a matter of time beofre people start getting nailed.

and they say weed doesn't make you paranoid eh , whats with the trips to mickyds at 2 in the am :-).

Lads in fairness if you think the state are using facial recognition soft wear to track your movements you should remember that they had to out source the speed van job not to mention the whole e voting thing or the inability to operate a justice or banking system.

the ****ing thing is properly broken and stuck in that position and they lack the funds and or ability to fix it, and once again cctv camera's don't flash you , they just don't ..............

The technology is there, the will and or finances are not but it's the way of the future. It's a cheap way to police and it makes for good tv.
