Well after a long time coming around I had my theory test today and passed it on the first go delighted :)

Now I've a few questions to ask about what I do next day as I'm abit confused, So yeah I know that I have to go the doctors now to get a eye test report so I was wondering when I'm going in to get that done will I bring in the Eyesight report fourm with me? Also do I bring in a medical report forum in with me aswell for the doctor to fill out and sign it for me? And when I go into the tax office to give them all the forms and documents needed, do they make my provisional there and then or does it take a couple of days for it to come back?

And on a final note would anyone know roughly how much it would cost to get insured on a 1.9 TDI golf on my father's name? Or on a 1.4 petrol golf in my own name? I'm a 19 year old male :p I just want to have a rough idea what it would cost before I go ringing theses insurance companys.

Thanks for any informantion given :)

You don't need to go to a doctor - go to SpecSavers or similar for an eyesight report, they'll fill out the requested form if you ask for it.

Medical form is only if you are old or have an actual condition that requires it. If you're a normal, young person, you don't need it.

Once you have all the forms and such (remember the pictures too), go to the MTO and order it. It'll take a few days before it arrives in the post.

For insurance, so many things count that it's hard to evaluate. I got my first insurance as a learner in a 1.4l for about €1850 for the first year - as a 32 year old male. Best bet would be to shop around a bit (or get somebody like first ireland to shop around for you).

Just wondering I plan on going into the tax office and giving them the forums and such to get my learners permit! My first question is, When I go in tomorrow and pay for the learner permit can I pay the fee in cash or do I got to get a bank daft etc..? And my second question is since this my first time to apply for a permit do I also have to give them in my passport, bank statement and my birth cert as proof of ID my address and my age?

A quick response would be appreciated :)

    You can pay in cash
Is the document requirements not listed on application form?

Got it sorted I seem to have read the guideline notes wrong and it took a second read to cop it :P Anyway went into the tax office in Leitrim handed in the forums and such paided the fee and then got a bombshell saying it'll be 3 or 4 weeks before I get my permit :( This a normal length? I've been told from a number of sources that it normaly only takes a few days to get it sent out to you. Sickended enough I've to wait that long was hoping if it came by the end of next week I could start my driving lessons the week after and have something at least done before I head back to college :(

    Hi,
the tax offices used to do the permits in thier office's ow they get sent of to do elseware that is why the waiting time is 3-4 weeks,
I had to apply for my fourth liscense back in May this year and only waited 2 weeks.
I applied for mine in Ballymun tax office
