Reversing sensor on a VW Golf

    Hi,

I was wondering about reversing sensor alarms, hope someone here can shed a bit of light on this. I am buying a VW Golf Mark VI 2009 with a reversing sensor installed in it. I am happy with the car but the reversing sensor is a bit annoying. The alarm sounds every time the reverse gear is engaged regardless of whether anything is in the vicinity of the sensor. It sounds the second the gear goes into reverse and then stops or starts again depending on whether or not there is something near the car.

Is it possible to change the alarm or disable the initial alarm sound when I put the car into reverse. I had a quick look at the alarm and it had a little switch on it that was for low - medium - high sound.

Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated?

was the parking sensors fitted from new i.e. By VW?

If so, should be possible to just program out the beep.

I've programmed out the seat belt reminder for a few people that carry heavy items on from passenger seat.

I've also enabled it for other people.

I'd imagine disabling that parking sensor engaging beep should be a similar process.

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure who installed it but at a guess it would have been installed by a third party after the original purchase. The positioning of the buzzer over the boot, just behind the back left window just sort of hanging not fixed to the car or hidden away suggests to me a more amateur installation. Now I could well be wrong in that but that's the vibe I got. I am not collecting the car until Friday so it's hard to recall exactly. I asked the dealer to try and do something with it but he is not sure if it can be done. I just thought someone here might install them or have some observation that might be useful to point out to the dealer.

    The car is a 2009 Volkswagen Golf High 2.0tdi M5F 5DR 110HP

From what your saying, its highly highly unlikely that's its a VW installation.

For that reason the unit won't be able to be programmed differently.

In my opinion, Im assuming, from its location that its activated by the power going to the reversing light bulbs.

If it's that irritating, Id just remove it altogether. I personally don't see much of a need for parking sensors on a hatchback car.

Best of luck with the car if you purchase.

Well as it is already partly installed would it be possible to fix it so it is like a vw dealer installed it? I like the idea of having the reversing sensor but I just don't want it to sound every time I need to put the car into reverse.

Cheers for the best wishes, this is the only complaint I have about the car really.

you'd need to find out what make and model the unit is and contact the manufacturer. They may be able to help.

I.e.. They might have a similar unit that would just replace that control unit but doesn't make that irritating noise.

As in the manufacturer of the reversing sensor? Ya ill try find that out off the dealer tomorrow if he can take a look. I am buying from a Volkswagen dealership so they might have a VW specific reversing sensor that could be installed and connected to the other electronics of the car? Where it can be controlled by vag com diagnostics?

Are there any settings i should request the dealer to enable/disable in the vag com of the car before i collect it? The beep when you lock the car for example?

This is the car in question.
