    Hi lads,

The Air Con on my Audi A4 hasnt worked since I bought the car. (ECON button stays on)

It never really bothered me but with the great weather we've been having recently I may aswell get it done!

I'm just wondering, how do I know if it just needs a Re-gas or if it actually needs a new compressor?

Also, I rang my local FastFit who said a regas is €80.. Is that tge going rate or a bit steep? (I was expecting around €50)

If anyobody can recommend anyone else around Dublin for a re-gas, i'd appreciate it.

    Cheers

I thought Fast fit was €50. Not too sure of cheaper prices but buying gas in a motor factors or Halfords won't leave much change from €80 and isn't as good as the proper machines.

Fast fit is €50, €40 if you're with Axa. http://www.axaplus.ie/fastfit_aircon.htm

A 3 use recharge cannister from Halfords is €44.99 and they charge separately for the nozzle. They also charge €13.99 to do the service if you don't fancy it yourself.

you need to check for codes on that. my econ stuck on about a year ago and turned out it was a sensor. also if it needs a regas get a professional to do it. they check for leaks and do a proper job, dont bother with halfords. i got a guy to call to my house for 100 notes so deffo dont pay 80 to bring it to fast fit.

A regas may be all that it needs, however from experience its more than likely the air con pump and its a common fault across the VAG range.

A good aircon specialist will have a fair idea whether its the pump or just the gas.

Btw. can you hear the pump clicking in and out as you turn on the a/c? If you can a regas may be all you need. But as I said a specialist visit is worth it's weight on gold.

Yeah, I have my doubts about it just needing a simple regas having read so many possible alternative reasons for the econ button staying on.

I cant hear the pump as i cant actually turn on the a/c. If i press the button tge econ light wont switch off (indicating a/c is not working)

Can you recommend any specialist around Dublin? Edit: sorry just saw your location.
