Welfare Payments For Masters Degree

I recently aquired my degree and will be going on to do a masters. I was receiving guardianship allowance while in college as both my parents are deceased but that was stopped when I finished college so I sign onto the dole. I am eligible for a grant for a postgraduate degree so I am going on to do a masters but I don't know if I am entitled to receive any payments from the welfare. Does anyone have any ideas?

If the masters is fulltime then no

You can receive the guardianship payment yourself up until your 22nd birthday so if you are still under 22 when you start the masters then you can reapply for the guardians payment

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I'm 22 now so if I do the masters I will have no income at all? And what if I do part-time?

You can receive a jobseekers payment once you meet the conditions to receive the payment

Is that only if I do the part-time one?

I suggest you ask Welfare directly. Their interpretation of you being available for and seeking work will be crucial.

Yes - you cannot get jobseekers benefit or jobseekers allowance if you are a full time student

Best advice is to look into the springboard courses, as they work with the social welfare and you wont loose any benefits if you take one up, however they do only offer specific courses so your masters choice may not be on it

There is no point in asking them. The rules are clear. You cannot attend a full time course and claim a jobseekers payment.
