Email after Attending Interview

    Hi guys

I attended an interview on Monday for a large company for a customer service position, which I thought went well. Interview was broke into 2 parts, first 45 mins was with 2 HR girls, and the second 45 was with the CEO.

After the first interview, the CEO came in and told me the girls rated my first interview at 8/10, to which I was understandably delighted. I got on great with the CEO, seemed to like me, and asked me if I'd provided HR with reference phone numbers.

Anyways, after the interviews I was told not to worry if I dont hear anything back straight away as they were still interviewing.

However I just got an email saying they are still in the interviewing process, and they will be in touch with me next week.

Now I can't decide if this is a good or bad thing. If they had no intention of hiring me, they'd have just emailed me thanking me but saying there were better candidates for the position.

I don't know what to think!

Is this standard procedure to email if interview process is continuing?

    Thanks!

Don't ever pin your hopes on a interview. Keep going until you have a job. Keep a track of who you send your CVs to and the progress.

There is absolutely no point in second guessing the little details. There is only have a job and not have a job. You'll drive yourself crazy wondering and you will probably never know.

Best thing is NOT to think about it too much, you will drive yourself mad and there is a 50/50 chance that whatever you think is wrong.

In large companies they often send mail merged emails to all applicants. This does not mean you did or did not get the job. It does not mean that it is an indication of anything, other than what the email said - we are still interviewing and will be in touch after that process is complete.

Could be that they have had a few applicants follow up asking for a time frame for an answer and this prompted the response, which they sent as a blanket email to everyone.

Seriously, don't read too much into it. Just do as they ask and wait and see what happens. In the meantime continue job hunting.

    Best of luck!

Now I got an email saying they've checked both references, one in particular was really good, and they'd be in touch next week.

Is this a good sign they've checked my references?

I mean, would they have if they didn't have me under consideration?

Usually it is a good sign as they only contact references for those under consideration.

But as per previous advice, don't wreck your own head second guessing what will happen. You don't know how the other applicants performed, so you really just cannot gauge this.

You've done all you can now, and you will either be successful or not. If not, at least you know that you did well enough to get through to reference checking.

Fingers crossed it's good news for you.

    Thanks for your input :)

I'm gonna stop thinking about it now, have my weekend, and come what may next week!

    Cheers :)
