I've been using the bulletproof ethos for 8 days now and so far so good. I am down 2.5kg which is mainly due to less water retaintion and would comfortable say my energy levels throughout the day are good to high, a big improvment on before.

A key part to this diet that people are not picking up on is the intermittent fasting. You stop eating at 8pm and bar your butter coffee, you don't eat again until lunchtime. Thats 16 hours of fasting ever day that previously I would have found impossible to do.

On the Q abiut the bp coffee grains...yes, I imagine a good high grade bean would substitute, I'm sticking with bp. I wake at 7am and using 3 heaped teaspoons of freshly ground coffee I brew 400ml in a French press (6.50 tesco). Meanwhile in a mug i put 30ml of MCT oil (not coconut oil) & 50g u salted butter. Once the coffee has had a few minutes I strain and pour in to the mug. I stir vigorously until all buttef is dissolved & enjoy.

I start work at 8am & am never hungry till after 12. Lunch consist of meat and veg, sometimes an avocado for some healthy oils. Dinner is meat veg and some rice but not always.

Your main give ups are bread potatoes pasta sugars sodas & processed food.
Its not cheap but not expensive either. This was last nights dinner...

your dinner looks good but where's the veg? :) rice is tasteless comparing to variety of veggies you can choose from.

A cup of bulletproof gives me enough energy for 1hr of lifting weights in the gym or 1hr bike ride and after that I'm still not hungry... great stuff, I love it. I make mine with butter and coconut oil (not interested in mct because it's man-made, ok partially but still... I prefer real food).

I just love lamb chops on their own...there was a spicy namjin on the rice which gived it a good kick.

This is my ham hock and veg salad...heaven...that was lunch the same day.

Where can I get this coffee in Dublin or is there any substitutes?

Any packaged coffee from supermarkets where I can just add hot water :/ ??

I started off using nescafe instant but there is no comparison with a high grade coffee you grind yourself. On facebook search upgraded ireland and you can find the irish distributors.

It seems as if the best coffee to use is ground black coffee either freshly ground or store bought. I tried with instant coffee as I didn't have any black coffee and it tasted like ass.

    Any recommendations of store bought?

I'd love to try this, have been on a get fit plan the last couple of weeks and seeing results but would like to give something else a shot.

I know I'm probably asking stupid q's but is it any butter too?

I have coconut oil so I'm good on that

What I got from the web is that Kerry Gold or any other grass fed butter will do fine as well as the most expensive black coffee you can afford.

It is own opinion that probably any butter, black coffee and coconut milk will suffice.

If the numbers above are correct, that's a lot of calories, lots of people won't feel hungry after having 600 calories in the morning.

Is the bulletproof diet not just a version of paleo?

that's fine. if somebody is on 2000kcal diet and after this has two more meals later in the day that leaves 700kcal per meal which is perfect ;)

I make mine with around 30g of fat in total.

edit: I think this diet allows small amounts of grain which is a no no in paleo diet.

I'd be curious about the high levels of caffeine and potential to create some type of adrenal fatigue long term...

I tried this yesterday. The coffee was nice enough but I got palpitations. I might try again with less coffee

Its the secret to these diets, see this and carb back loading, dose people up on coffee big time and they feel great then they get used to it then stop doing the diet and feel like sh1te from the caffeine drop.

been reading this thread since its inception and initially skeptical of what appears to be just another fad approach but I'm looking at upping my fat intake and wondering if this would be enough. I'm lazy and not a great cook, I have coconut oil but rarely fry stuff so its just getting left on the shelf and if a dollop of butter in the coffee in the morning compensates than that would be handy. (I eat a few raw nuts every now and then but other than that very little red meat and just the occasional oily fish)

I have tried bulletproof coffee and can say I really felt it, it woke me up, felt more alert and focused.

Alternatively, it also had a bad effect on me to. Got horrible cramps from it and general fatigue in the evenings as well, it can also get quite hard to drink after a while I find, the texture at first is amazing but it slowly gets a bit sickly.

The diet on the other hand seems straight forward enough, high enough protein and fat and no crap carbs etc, seems pretty standard.

OK, a week in & I've gone from 91.4kg (201.6lbs) to 83.25kg (183.54lbs). Energy levels are through the roof on this. Have been experiencing some headaches but nothing too bad & I suspect it's the caffeine.

Because my energy levels are higher I've been doing more/expending more energy.

Have almost totally cut white bread out of my diet & feel a lot better for it.

Want to lose about another 3kg (6.6lbs) as I'm going on holiday in four weeks so will keep it up. If I do, I'll be the lightest I've been since a teenager.

Should also mention (little gross so using spoilers)
Bowel movements have been more frequent (twice a day instead of once), larger (in volume) & looser (solid but easier to go, no pushing) than before because of the coffee

I think his point was if you have possibly 300 mg of caffeine and 600 calories in the morning, of course you are not going to be hungry till lunch. You can hardly call having a boat load of cals fasting just because its in a coffee.

A lot of simple things are going over peoples heads with regards this bulletproof diet. Calories + **** ton of caffeine = Energy.

Could anyone tell me if you drink the bulletproof coffee more than once in a day?

I drink 4-5 cups of coffee a day, 2 cups immersion brewed in the morning and the rest steam brewed. Each one I put cream/coconut oil/coconut milk. ymmv

I have had to give up regularly drinking coffee due to sleep issues if I have a cup past 1pm, and if i had a few in the morning the slump just wasn't worth it mid day.

That's a dangerously high amount of caffeine & huge calories with the additions.

Its about 400mg total caffeine, 120mg x 2 immersion brews, and 80mg for the steam brewed. I have high tolerance for stimulants and 400mg is not dangerous. Huge calories is relative, its roughly 100cals per brew which is counted towards my fat balance for the day.

I've been using 50/50 mix of regular mid roast and decaf coffee for over a week now and the effect is the same.
