Corsa C Odd Engine Noise

    Hi all,

Yesterday my 2002 1.2 Corsa C started making an odd rattling noise from the top right side (OSF) of the engine. It's not that loud but can be heard inside the car. It's rev dependant, still noisy in neutral with no EML. Just passed the NCT on Saturday.

I'm thinking either an aux belt tensioner/pully problem or a timing chain tensioner issue. I've been on Youtube to listen to timing chain problems on the Z12XE engine, but they all sound like diesels, this sounds like someone loudly rattling a few nuts in a Coke can, and at idle it fades slightly every few seconds.

Any ideas on the cause? Thanks lads.

Sounds very much like a timing chain issue is the car well looked after of would services have been missed.

I know the car's history well, so abuse is not the issue. I noticed that the top aux pulley is vibrating, and that's where the noise is coming from. Any idea how much it might cost if the pulley it the issue?

That is the waterpump pulley and if its wobbling it needs to be looked asap as if it fails the engine will overheat very quickly.

Thanks, just noticed that it's damp behind the pulley. Very slow leak, but at least I know where the problem is. I'm guessing @ €150 to fix?

150 should cover it bout a 1 and 1/2 hours including bleeding, price would vary with hourly rate and brand of pump fitted
