New Nexus!,no specs yet but there's pricing.

I've seen rumors of the Snapdragon S4 Pro (the same chip that's in the Nexus 4) or a Snapdragon 600. Nobody knows for sure. Can't wait for this event. Hope 4.3 does get announced with a release date almost instantly afterward!

My money is on new Nexus 7, 4.3 and new camera app - based on the numerous rumours I've read.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,864 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

Pity it wasn't released at that price in retail outfits in the states last week when I was over there, would probably have picked one up. I'm sure we will experience the same supply issues here as with other recent nexus devices which will be all sorts of fun. Hopefully they will have estimated supply and demand better this time anyhow and might see a retail release here sooner rather than later.

Due to the somewhat slower iterative releases of android in the last year or so, I would guess the Nexus 5 release later this year will still be on 4.3 or maybe a smaller iteration like 4.3.1 or so. I can't see Android 5 that soon anyhow, but you never know I guess.

Is 4.3 going to be Key Lime Pie by the way?

If Google continue the trend of launching new Google phones in Q4, I reckon we might see KLP/5.0 just before year end.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,864 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

Ok, if this isn't KLP then I agree it is likely we will see that this year, presumably in tandem with a new Nexus phone in October or so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,909 ✭✭✭The_B_Man

I thought they said that KLP is coming out in October?

What was released last week? Nexus 7 2 isn't out yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,580 ✭✭✭✭Riesen_Meal

    Who said?

Google haven't even officially confirmed 4.3 so they definitely haven't confirmed or given a release date for KLP.

4.3 has been showing up in logs the last 3 months or so, its definitely imminent, KLP we hope should come out for Androids 5 year anniversary in October, but sure no one knows if this will be the case or not....

With the larger bezel above and below, and with the Nexus logo orientated the way it is on the back, it looks like they want you to hold it in landscape, which is bizarre. Don't think I like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭mrmanunited

That bezel looks crazy, a bit like a plastic bigger version of the htc one...

I hope 4.3 resolves the restating issue of the nexus 10...

Only issue I had was with Chrome rebooting - believe there is/was an issue with Chrome not playing nicely with latest version of JB and crashing. I switched to the Chrome beta some months back and no problems since.

Will the current nexus get even cheaper?! They're already so cheap for a superb product!!

Yeah, pretty much inevitable that the current product will be reduced when the new one is released.

I reckon they'll stop making them and sell the remaining stock cheaper. Either that or they'll continue production of it and keep the existing price, while inserting the new model into a higher price tier. It would be great if a third option was considered; that is to keep going production on the first Nexus 7, drop its price and offer it as a super-budget alternative to the already budget price-point that exists where the new Nexus 7 could be inserted.

I guess Google wouldnt want sales to eat into the new product but I would love to see that happen, get android tablets to everyone. There are already dirt cheap ones out there, but none of the same quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭DECEiFER

Yeah, get 'em in from China with Froyo installed and half the language is in Chinese!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,043 ✭✭✭nedd

I bought a cheap chinese tablet and while it is great for the money I should have splashed out more and got a Nexus 7. The build quality isnt great and the wifi is unusable so it is only being used to allow my 2 year old watch peppa pig and postman pat in the car.

A knockdown price Nexus 7 would be great, I don't need a rear camera on my tablet, I don't want to be one of those people taking photos with it.

Hopefully its the 3rd option, The OG Nexus 7 would be in impulse buy territory for anybody at €150 the Kindle Fire HD is down to £160 right now and the Nook HD is sub £120 so theirs room for Google tweak with pricing.

With Google music and Books now available in more regions it makes sense but I dont think they have ever continued producing a nexus device once a superseding device has been released then again they have never had a such a successful nexus product.

That's it, which is why the third option seems less likely. But this is the first time Google have kept control of the Nexus models in terms of retailing them in addition to their being successful. I think when it comes to Google they are very unpredictable. Hopefully they'll spill the beans tomorrow. What would be even better is if they announce devices going on sale in additional countries. While Ireland got Music earlier this year alongside several other countries, Books was different in that I don't think anyone else got Books at the same time as us.

    Fingers crossed!

Rumours online that the 2nd gen Nexus 7 was ready for launch at the I/O event in May but Google held off the launch until the cleared some of the 1st gen N7 stock.

N7 could benefit from more RAM and improved screen resolution but current gen is fine for most tasks. Looks like the new model will retail for same price as old.

Seems the tech companies are doing smaller updates just to keep the annual cycle going. Ive read rumours of an 1920x1200 display which sounds good, but just starting at 16gb again! Surely wait a couple of months again for the 32 version?? 9to5google says USA can buy from the 30th...

No couple month wait will change the fact its a budget device and there inst much of a margin being made.

Google are against expandable storage and want to push people towards Google cloud services but there will be a 32gb model at launch.

I think its very attractive, with the 1080p,horizontal Nexus branding and extra bezel on the top and bottom screen they are pushing this more as a video consumption device so hopefully we might see play movies pushed to more regions (Ireland).

This will be my first android tablet and a day one purchase If I wasnt away next week :o

Lads haven't been able to check out the specs but is this much of a upgrade from the original nexus 7?

Extra processor power/RAM will help, I've noticed the old N7 slower compared to the N4 and N10.
Ability to connect to TV via slimport with HDMI is also handy to have for playing back video/XBMC.

So the new Nexus 7 is a larger Nexus 4, since it has the same SoC and CPU clock speed and the same amount of RAM. Not bad, though, because it did need something more than the surpassed Tegra 3 SoC.
