Is it possible to switch to Electric Ireland to a prepay meter? I am currently on a bill pay with a different provider?

    Hi canihave,

To be eligible for our pay-as-you-go meters you would need to satisfy certain criteria. More specifically, these meters are reserved for Electric Ireland customers who need assistance clearing arrears, and they wouldn't be generally available on request to all customers. New customers would not be eligible.

It's better to think of the meters we offer as debt management devices; strictly speaking they aren't prepay, in the same way a mobile phone provider might offer prepay. A certain percentage of each top-up will always go towards clearing existing arrears, and the rest goes towards paying for electricity as it is used. Once the arrears have been cleared, the customer then reverts to a normal (credit) meter.

    Regards,
    David
