    Hey Guys,

So i'm going to be getting a tablet and was looking at these guys. I had actually forgotten about the nexus 10. just looking for some opinions. My main use of the tablet will be for watching tv shows and movies while travelling for battery life is the most important for me. I also have a Samsung galaxy s2 phone at the moment too.

Have been doing a bit of research online and reading the reviews. initially I was going with the tab 2 10.1 but then saw the tab 3 come out. I'll be getting this in the US so its only €220($299), tab 3 is €301($399) and the note 10.1 and nexus 10 is €340($450).

Looking at them now i'm wondering is there enough in the note or the nexus to make it worth the extra money to go for the nexus or the note 10.1? The reason i would think of the nexus is purely because of the display being almost twice is high res. The only thing that is a bit annoying is that they don't have external capacity although i have heard now that if you root that it will work with usb host. Not sure how easy it is to set that up.

No need to root the Nexus to use an USB key. You can use an app (Nexus Media Importer) which will allow you to play media
straight from USB using an USB OTG cable. Watching a 1080p movie on the Nexus 10 is hard to beat!

If battery life is the most important criteria for you then I think the Nexus 10 is the winner.

I've a Note 10 and use it for a couple of hours daily. The battery life is fine. I think I'd generally charge it 1 night out of 3. But then the Nexus 10 has a bigger battery.

However you're paying a big premium for that. You've said the Nexus 10 is about $150 more than the Note 10. For TV the screen on the Note 10 (same as Tab 2) is great. I've no problem with the quality. I know the Note 10 is better. I've seen them side by side in my work. I didn't regret getting the Note 10 when I saw them. The Note 10 did look sharper. It's like looking at a really good TV beside a really, really good TV :D

It's also cheap to get 32gb microSD cards these days which can pop into the Tabs as far as I know.

For your usage I wouldn't bother with the Note 10. You're paying a premium for the pen. I love the pen and I probably won't ever be able to get a tablet again that doesn't have a pen as I use it constantly now, but it's useless if you're just using the device for media consumption.

So someone has figured a way to sort it. nice. Does playing videos files off a usb stick use up much more battery than just playing from the device itself?

Sorry i don't think i was clear on the pricing, the tab 2 is 299, tab 3 is 399 and then the note and the nexus 10 seem to be the same price at 451 each.

i suppose in thinking about it some more i don't think there is really much of a different between the tab 2 and tab 3 so am wondering if there is enough of performance gain and change to go for either the nexus or the note 10.1

Ah I meant to say the nexus 10 is about 150 more than the tab 2. I must have had the Note 10.1 on the brain.

thanks of the replies. think its prob going to down to either the nexus 10 or the tab2. trying to decide if i want to stump up the extra cash. I've heard there is a new nexus version coming out. Anyone know when as this will surely bring down the price of the nexus 10

Can't say I've noticed any difference on battery consumption playing video from USB compared to playing from internal storage.

Google event is on 24/7/13, speculation is they'll announce a new replacement for nexus 7, nothing rumoured around a nexus 10 replacement. But it is all speculation at this stage. Hold off and see what google announce would be my advice. The nexus 7 is a year old and pricing on that has already started to drop in anticipation of a new model. Nexus 10 was launched in Q4 2012 so might take longer before it is replaced.
