Looking for recruitment agency recommends

    Hello all,

I've just recently finished getting some new qualifications and find myself on the job hunt again. I've never used an agency before but I'm thinking it might be good especially given the area I'm looking.

I'm looking in the IT industry and I'm sure there are specific agencies that deal with IT, I was wondering if anyone can recommend one? Any experience with one, good results etc. ?

    Thanks.

You are going to get lots of mixed advice (most of it negative), but IMO it is the individual recruiter rather than the agency who will make your experience either positive or negative.

Also, I would recommend you simply apply for the jobs you are interested in rather than targeting a particular agency.

I've always gone the direct route, and I will continue to do so, but I just thought I could also use an agency? I'm really determined to get working asap.

    Hi Zombienosh,

Morgan McKinley are probably the best around Dublin, Stelfox and Sigmar are good also. The rest are probably best avoided in my experience

In my experience an agency has never come good for me (IT area). They all say your CV is excellent, promise great things but fail to deliver on any.

In fact I was just looking at an email sent into my company from a recruiter who is just cold calling trying to secure a position for a job seeker. Christ I can do that myself !! I would bet my last cent that the recruiter said they had a position available to that job seeker.

In my opinion/experience all agencies do is harvest CV's (for whatever reason, because they sure don't secure employment :)).
Skip the middle man and try to deal with companies direct would be my advice.

Thats terrible advice from 'the varg' OP. You cant just 'skip' the middle man, because the vast majority of IT jobs go through agencies. There are a LOT of people on boards who have flunked interviews or were just not good enough to get a job and they immediately put the blame on recruitment agencies as to the reason they did not get the job.

I have been working in IT for almost 8 years and ive dealt with a number of agencies. Most of my experience has been positive and ive gotten almost every job that i have ever went for. If you are good enough i can assure you, you will get the job regardless of the agency it is with. If your ****e, then you wont get it. And if you dont get it dont expect a phone call to massage your damaged ego!

And as for 'the varg' saying in his experience an agency has never come good for him?? Imagine the amount of agencies out there, imagine the amount of jobs they have between them? Now imagine someone who has never sucessfully managed to get one of these jobs with any agency? Who do you think is to blame? All the agencies or the candidate who just wasnt good enough!

I wonder how CPL generated all this money then

In fairness CPL's main money maker would be the managed services they provide to the likes of HP. I used to work there and when I had put in 2 years and wanted to move on they had absolutely no interest in helping me find a job.

If you mean 'La Crème' they don't get great reviews if you do a quick search on this forum for 'La Creme'... I'll leave it at that.
