Avensis ecu

I drive a 03 avensis and have three lights on full time on my dash board for last few months - engine warning light, abs light and airbag light. I brought it to my local garage and they plugged it into their diagnostic machine but could not find out what was wrong with it. They told me that it was ok to drive and to bring it to a main dealer. The main dealer said that the ecu was cracked and needs replacing. My local garage said to get a second opinion which I have yet to do.
If the ecu does need replacing with a second hand one is this possible and would it cost more than car is worth?
Is there anywhere around Galway that deal with this kind of thing?
Also the abs comes on when I am driving at low speeds and braking, usually pulling out the drive. This started happening after I brought it to the garage and main dealer, about 2 months after the lights came on.
    Thanks

a cracked ecu?,not something you find everyday but anything is possible,i think i'd go with your mechanic to get the 2nd opinion.
if your engine ecu is faulty then yes you can use a 2nd hand one but make sure part numbers are the same and it will need to be programmed to the car unless you get the key and immobiliser box too.
scrap yard prices for the full set are generally around 150-200e

    hope this helps.

Look for unused airbag connectors and see if any are giving bother, this is often the reason for airbag lights coming on

Any idea what fault codes were got, the 3 lights will come on when 1 system detects a fault, ie fault could be in engine and the abs and airbag are just saying that they have lost communication with the other systems, ive never had a issue with a ecu in theses cars, , see if you can find out the fault codes.
