Etihad Cancellation, my rights?

I am stuck in Manila tonight as my outbound Etihad flight to Abu Dhabi is delayed by six hours. As a result I will miss my connecting flight to Dublin and face an unscheduled stop-over in Abu Dhabi.

They have offered to put me in a hotel but I will have to confirm this in Abu Dhabi. When I got to the airport they had originally cancelled my booking and tried to force onto tomorrow nights flight instead, I refused and told them I am flying tonight and will get at least that far.

I am facing a long haul delay of over 24 hours and I want to know my rights if any, my destination is Dublin, I am extremely annoyed as this costs me one whole day and the extra stress on top of it all.

Compensation for being more than 24 hours late, you should have seen the "food" we were given at the restaurant the coupons were for, honestly I would not give it to a dog. I have been through a lot of Airports and this place is the worst kip yet, permanently stuck in the 1970's and everything is filthy and corruption everywhere. Can't wait to get airborne in 3.5 hrs time.

This is not doing their squeaky clean image much good is it? I would have expected better of them.

The usual EU rules probably do not apply out there, do the

Do you have any travel insurance? They could come through in a big way depending on your plan. Check the policy and follow it TO THE LETTER! I got €800 for delayed baggage once from insurance for example.

OP I'm sorry you had issues with your travel but nobody here can really help, take it up with Etihad and see what they might offer.

When we speak of aviation disasters we usually refer to a crash or incident so I'm going to edit your title also.

Apologies for the thread name, just a typical Irishism, anyways I am in the Radisson in Abu Dhabi now compliments of Etihad, chauffeur driven and once I got inboard the plane they could not have been nicer, similarly in Abu Dhabi. Manilla airport is the black hole of airports, I had to sit on the floor for 3 hours as they did not have enough seats for the almost 400 passengers and I gave mine to an elderly woman who needed it more.

Amazingly they have free wifi though but all other facilities are very poor. 14 hr layover here and onto Dublin tomorrow morning. Etihad tried routing me to Dublin via Heathrow tonight but I declined as it would be too
much hassle for one day as i'd still have to go to Kerry afterwards.

So far they have impressed me by turning a bad situation good, the Manila airport situation obviously being outside their control.

Sitting on the floor for 3hrs in a developing country that must have been horrendous, did you disinfect your clothes after.
The adventures of traveling can be rough.

Almost the same happened to us recently. Except with Emirates.
We had an unscheduled 24 hour stopover in Dubai.

Looked after well by Emirates and a no jet lag trip from Australia!
