Putter fitting

Just wondering if anyone here has gone through a specific putter fitting and if yes how did you find the process?

I'm unsure at moment as to what is the correct length putter for me and want to sort it out as I feel working hard on my putting could save a couple shots per round.

I tried out the Ping app for the iphone which a friend has and established that my stroke has a slight arc so as far as I know that means a mallet style putter is not correct for me?? not fully sure

I know it's a very personal thing, whatever feels best might often be the one. But you often hear guys getting fitted for drivers, irons etc. putter often gets overlooked even though its only club used on every hole!

I think there is a fella in Galway that does it, golftek I think is the company.

Theres a lab in Dublin http://www.golflabdublin.com/

I was thinking of going there but thery're on holidays till the end of july.

I got the ping cradle to and it says I have a strong arc. I'm not that happy about that so I will work on changing my stroke using the app.

I want to buy a 33in Scotty Cameron Fastback (Mallet type with a little toe flow)
Thing the Ping app is a bit of a gimmicky tho as I have tried a lot of different putters including the face balanced mallet types, heavy toe anser 4 type, and the Nike core 2 which would suit a slight arc.

I preformed best with the Nike even though it doesn't suit my stroke! So I said to hell with it.
Now I'm buying one that I like the look/feel of and I'm confident my stroke will come round.

Did it myself with a saw and regripepd, added lead tape until it felt right to counterbalance. If you know where you want your hands for the way you grip. then fire away, no need for a pro.

Putters shafts are way to big for the majority of golfers

I did the Dave Pelz short game course at Killeen Castle back in March and during the putting section the instructor did a Putter fitting for the three of us present.

After the course I immediately went next door to Foregolf and asked them to reduce the lenth on my Scotty Cameron Newport 2.6 from 35 inch to 31.5 inch.

Everyone since has remarked on how short my putter looks but I feel so much happier when I take my putting stance now. I actually relaised that I had previously been gripping the putter almost off the grip.

The instructor said that Tiger who is the same height had won most majors with a 29 inch putter and it is well understood that most amateurs are using stock putter shaft lenths that are too long for them. Perhaps true or not, but I am glad I took the step, one less thing to worry about.

AFAIK Tiger won all his majors with a 35.25' Scotty Cameron, not sure what size his new putter is. The instructor may have meant Mickelson, he did use short putters, but I doubt any were 29', probably more like 31-32'.

My mate bought a putter in Halpenny last week and they are doing a basic putter fitting in the shop in Airside.

Did you add the weight to the head or the butt?
Changes grip on my putter and the Pro said on there is lead tape in the top of the shaft will i leave it there and i did. not sure if the new grip is a different weight but the putter just weens lighter.
Have added weight to the head but still can't seem to get it right.

I was over with David in the golf lab about 2 months back, would definitely recommend it if you're getting a new putter. I got one of the just treat vouchers at Christmas, was very interesting to see the swing arcs etc, as always with golf what I think I'm doing and what I'm actually doing never seem to align :) I actually didn't end up changing my putter, just the grip to a thicker one, which he did there and then for me.

I should have said I took fiver inches off, and used sand in the shaft too, so I didn't have so much lead tape messing up the putter.

I think swingweight is irrelevant in a putter as it's totally feel orientated during the movement, and putters don't need to be matched up to other clubs. The stactic weight is irrelevant, the putter either feels to heavy or too light, I used the weight I lopped off as an indicator, and added more until it felt right

That way it was actually a custom fit rather than just adding the 20 grams or whatever was taken off, I'd say it was around 35 grams between the head and the sand in the shaft.
