Interview tonight, not sure if I should go

I got a call Saturday off an English number, English woman, offering me an interview tonight at the Red Cow at 8pm. She spoke very fast, didn't mention the company name (Findel PLC) till I asked and when I asked if she could be a bit more specific because I had applied to a lot of jobs she kinda brushed it off.

The email they sent me made it seem very door to door (sorry if posting the guts of the email is a no no)
"We currently have part time and full time positions to fill and are able to provide fully flexible working hours. We are looking for reliable hard-working individuals to join a successful team. There will be information for you to take away after explaining all of our available positions. I will discuss with you the particulars of our available opportunities and your suitability."

Along with a link to the dodgiest sounding website ever, www.make-some-money-now.co.uk.

I've been trying to ring them since I got home from work at 3 with no success. Has any body dealt with the company before and does it sound as door to door to others as it does me?

    Thanks

Knowing nothing about the company, my gut feeling is it's some kind of scam. The email is very general, fails to state what you will be doing if you get the job, and is seems to me like one of the plethora of fake " get rich quick " online companies.

I can imagine that you are anxious to get a job, but I wouldn't go to the interview.. as you said, you got a bad feeling from the call and your interaction with the company has been quite vague..

Having said that, if it is genuinely Findel plc you are dealing with they are actually quite a large company - they used to Own the I Want One of Those website, and currently operate the Kleeneze brand and Express Gifts - two large catalogue companies in the UK.

My expectation is that another company are looking to recruit door to door sellers (Kleeneze distributors) where you would get catalogues from the company and would then go door to door trying to pick up regular customers... not the easiest of jobs, but then again if you are good at it and get a good "patch" for yourself you could make a few quid for yourself out of it!

I have bought of Findel before( Hope , Galt educational equipment). so it is a genuine reputable company. Very big in the UK. Sure go to the interview and if you dont like the sound of it, then dont accept the position.

Only realised it was last night. How did it go? If you attended?

I'd be fairly sure the job is commission only. Nothing wrong with that if you like selling and agree with their terms...

Personally, for this sort of thing, if I had nothing planned that night I would go along to the interview. Worst case scenario it is interview training and a few hours lost.

I actually went last night, and let me tell you it wasn't the biggest crock of sh*te I have ever heard in my life.

I found the email I receive when I applied, it was to for a sports merchandising company and thinking it was their Kitbag site and I've a sports degree I'd go. Upon arriving at the Red Cow it turns out the company was Kleeneze, well I should say "company". Basically Kleeneze runs off a pyramid scheme format using tactics a cult would be too ashamed to use. The "job" wasn't for Kleeneze, it was for a group that sold their products. Also, it wasn't an interview, it was a "presentation" with a group discussion at the end.

Of a total of 18-20 odd people there, I counted 4 people there who didn't work for that particular group. After the most shameful and lie filled 40 minutes of my life (the reason I didn't walk out earlier was because I was genuinely laughing so hard I thought I gained a great story to tell at parties) they continued with awards for group members who got "an amazing 670 points in their first month", no one knew how this point system worked and what that actually meant. At one point I swear the speaker intentionally started throwing in quote from the episode of the Simpsons where they join that cult with the Leader.

After the talk I was mean to stick around for the group talk and as I walked out the guy who talked to me at the start (now a millionnaire in less than 8 years in that particular group, apparently) asked why I was leaving. Simply told him how I was brought under false pretenses (ie working for them and not Findel, which was the case), didn't want to do door to door and wouldn't work for commission only, especially with all the clear and blatant lies told (their version of supply chain management was laughable and just not true). This took several loud minutes at which he just replied with "ok mate, well cheers for coming out anyway and good luck with everything", bastard was being too nice and ruined my moment :-P

Also to start up, you need to pay a simple fee of 54e minimum, which actually turned out to be 172e along with the weird practice of if someone buys something from the catalogue you essentially buy that product with you're own money and they'd then pay you back along with your tiny commission.

I'm tempted now just for the craic to send them a bill for the cost of petrol out there and say my hourly consultants fee is 100e and bill them. Obviously wouldn't get the money but for the laugh why not.

The cheek . I wouldn't waste the stamp . Where the other people at it actually interested?

Unfortunately. Every time you want to "expand your company" you need to buy more catalogues off them and they were awarding this pensioner for taking his first step to success and expanding. All I thought was the poor bastard was about to be fleased.

Also found it hilarious that out of the "speakers" they had over, just in case they had one bi-racial mid 20s hip looking lad to speak to speak to the younger guys. Three guys there looked kind of like deer caught in headlights and this prick was obviously meant to "contact with the younger generation and show how cool and hip their group is". Felt like telling them to run away fast tbh.

One of my favourite lines was "Guys, the 9-5 job is over, it's dead. Our way of business is the wave of future". I muttered to myself "more like the wave of an economic depression and exploitation of the desperate and vulnerable" to which a middle ages similarly unimpressed man gave a little chuckle.

Sounds like a right laugh . At least you know now not to trust every person who calls you for an interview! Onwards and upwards :)

My partner actually did Kleeneze for a short while after a "friend" convinced her it was an easy fun way to make money. The way it actually works is you buy the catalogues and you pay for your first order and then they advance you a credit of between €100 and €300 for your next order. You have to buy the bags to put the catalogues in as well as any carrier bags you might need to deliver your order. This has to be paid off before you can place your next order and if it comes to over the credit amount you pay the difference before they'll release the order.

You have a team leader who gets paid more for having you on their team and constantly tells you to recruit as you will earn more to, but so does the person who recruits you. They know you're unlikely to stay long term. Money can be made from it but not a vast amount and you have to work long and hard hours for it. Its the lies and constant pressure that makes it a joke of a company.
