    Hi all,

I'm building my first road-bike and trying to do things fairly cheaply.

Anybody selling a reasonable 2nd-hand beginner's wheelset - suitable for a Shimano 10 speed tiagra cassette.

I'm not exactly sure what a reasonable beginner's wheelset is - based on reading this forum I'm thinking about saving up and getting new Fulcrum 5s next month. If I can get something cheaper 2nd hand then that'd be better and wouldn't involve waiting another month until I have enough for new Fulcrums :)

If you are not a heavyweight I still have these. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=85251168

Great wheels. For a decent offer I will throw in a set of tyres and tubes as well.

    Thanks bcmf.

That's a fair bit more than I want to spend 2nd hand though - being a beginner I doubt that I'd really notice the improvement over something like fulcrum 5s and a new set of those for similar money without any 2nd hand concerns seems easier.

    I'm 75 Kg - I guess that's more of a middleweight ;)

They are rated to 95 kgs and am open to (not silly) offers ;)

    Thanks bcmf.

I wasn't kidding about the beginner bit so I'm trying to figure out what's a reasonable offer and if the servicing you think they need is a bit too scary compared to brand new ones ;)

    These are the rims?

Your wheels have better hubs (right?) but they're older and may need a replacement free-hub and bearings. I think a free-hub is a bolt-on job no harder than changing a cassette, yes? - I'm building a bike for the fun of it, so I don't mind a bit of hassle but I don't know anything about building wheels yet as I'm really only researching as I have to do things.

Would 100 euro sound reasonable and would you recommend these (+buying a freehub) over waiting and paying more for new Fulcrum 5s?

Yeah they are the rims with better hubs.
100 is a bit low tbh.
What I was going to do if they didnt sell was get a new hub perhaps a pro lite hub but there are plenty to pick from on ebay and get them rebuilt whne the hub or freehub eventually goes.
FWIW my other set are Campag Khamsins and I upgraded the bearings and I love them. The Fulcrum 5's maybe the same or maybe better.

I have the replacement rear bearings but think the replacement hub may have to come form Williams themselves stateside. I think its about $35.
Thats why I was gonna go for a new hub.
Spokes are still fine so most should be still useable.

Brilliant :-) wheels are the last bit that I need. I could meet you at lunch tomorrow if that suited. I'm on Thomas street, near James street junction.
