Could they have placed the two actors on a moveable seat and track? Then zoomed in on them as they moved forward too. Or they could be changing the lens angle from wide to tight? Not sure.

it's called a dolly zoom. you can either dolly back as you zoom in on the subject, or vice versa

Hitchcock used it too in Vertigo

Scorcese did a great slow one in Goodfellas.

"Reverse Zoom", pull out camera as you zoom in (obviously you have to get the out/in ratio correct).

Pull forward, zoom back with appropriate timing.

Lots of films use the dolly zoom, love this one from Goodfellas:

pull back and zoom at the same time

    Other way around lads.

The shot in jaws is going from zoom/tele to wide angle. It's zooming out, with the camera rolling in on a dolly.

By zooming in and tracking out at the same time, maintaining the same frame of view but drastically increasing the depth perception.

One of my favourite shots in a movie. Still get tingles watching it.

Yeah, for some reason it works best in that film. Everywhere else I've seen it used it looks like an exceptionally plain effect.
