Hi all, how much would an auditor in a senior level position (say 4-5yrs experience) at PWC, KPMG, EY, Deloitte be earning for their performance bonus? am trying to get a feel of the market rate before accepting a job offer. Thanks ahead!

Why wouldn't they give bonuses to non-managers?

I've heard of first year trainees getting performance bonuses in Deloitte

Ok I see what you mean, i was thinking more along the lines of profit sharing type performance bonus

Generally during your contract you will be graded a rating for your years work/effort. lets say a rating of 3/5 is standard, a 4/5 rsated person gets a little bit more. As far as I know its not big/significant money.

They possibly meant that they got a bonus for passing exams - the big 4 do not pay "performance bonuses" to staff below manager grade.

Some of the firms operate "above and beyond" type schemes where you might get a one4all voucher or similar for a particularly exceptional performance, but there are minimal enough awards (think EYs was €250 max; PwC give three/four per year to teams - the award usually being a generous budget for a dinner out for the team).

This was definitely on top of the passing the exam bonus but may have been for exceptional performance.

That is not correct for all of the big 4.

Christmas bonus or a performance bonus? Can you be specific? Getting an extra €1000-€2000 in salary over the course of a year wouldn't be counted as a performance bonus.

    Why not?

There are different pay grades for people on different ratings - but I have yet to come across a member of staff below management grade who received an annual bonuses based on performance.

A bonus is a lump sum paid out every now and again (usually annually or semi-annually).
Being on a different pay scale means you are getting a different salary.

Please tell me that you know what the difference between salary and bonus is?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I consider the difference between a higher salary due to high performance and a once off bonus payment due to high performance to be pretty negligible. I am aware of the former in the big 4 for grades under manager, not the latter.

Exam passing bonuses (taxable and one off non-taxable), retention bonuses to stay to a certain date, exam prize bonuses and slightly varying levels of annual pay increases based on performance grades inexcess of average (500-2000 difference for exceptional vs average grading) are the only salary items beyond standard pay I have come across in my time for below manager level. No strict performance one off bonuses which not exam related - however this may not be true of all...
