just around about half the circuit this morning.

A new Café has opened in Loftus hall. looking good.

We are incorporating Slianh coillte in this years 100 and 160K routes .

This is optional to climb the 250 meters. adding 6 K to the overall length.

All road surfaces in good condition.

    Maps:

the 100 km Tour of Wexford:
Takes in Slieve Coillte but does not enter onto the hook Peninsula:
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2913988

    the full 160 km:
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2914017

    the family 40 K :
    http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2914086

This concentrates on being as much coastal as we could make it. However the first views of the sea will be at 50 K when you should see the coast line from the top of Slieve Coillte @250 meters.

    hello people !!!

just driving the route the last few days, marking out the road.

I discovered that part of our route was borrowed by a neighbouring Sportive called the Giro del Murrintowneo....what is that expression? imitation is the highest form of flattery ?

anyhow, route remains in excellent condition. Over 100 K of the 160 route is now marked. there is a road mark every 2 miles or less. So no one will be lost.

A singe CLimb was introduced this year at the JFK Arboretum. Purely optional at 250 meters. Fantatsic vista from the top. The tour brings you to the base and stops for a water/ food break and its up to you to ascend.

it is a dead end at the top with a fantastic vista over all of the south wexford coast. U must turn around and descend. Be careful of the odd car and ascending riders. For those familiar, the road to the top is like the road to the masts at three rocks. A little wider but u get the picture.

There is an alteration made down around the baginbun part of the tour, where we keep you off the busy duncannon line for longer than last year. Better scenary, closer to the sea and much less traffic. A good improvement.

Tomorrow the road check and mark will cover the kilmore stage of the tour.

Loftus hall also have a great new café down there We will be hosting a water and food stop at Loftus hall where there is a great vista out over the hook peninsula.

    Further alterations now made.

For the 100 K, we are taking out the loop up to Sliabh coillte hill and rejoining you with the main route later on. Essentially the 100 K people are taking a short cut but join the main 160 K route a little later. The 160 K route people will then be behind you by 30 K, giving you the chance to rejoin a larger group, once they have done the Sliabh Coillte climb.

this also brings all groups to loftus hall for the main food break at 60 K.

a second short cut Is built in for the 100 group at fethard allowing the 100 K to rejoin the 160 route at fethard.

this should work by rejoining you with the main groups as they take in a longer route.

Working well up to 90 K of the 100 K route is the same as the 160 Route. this means that the 100 and 160 will find themselves meeting one another fomr time to time on the same route for 90 of the 100 K 160 K route.

the groups finally fully depart at wellington bridge to meet again at piercestown.

Looking forward to this.....looks like a good one.

from sundays tour, a redesign was put in .

consider any 100 K turn as a short cut to the route

so u could be on the 160 and still take a 100 K short cut.

but the 100 will not stretch to all the best spots !!! and terminates after Welliington bridge staright back to the start.

primarily the 100 eliminates sliabh coillte climb and the 20 k to get there and back.

also eliminates the loop after wellington bridge down to kilmore which is about 40 K eliminantion..

but the 100 includes: overlap with the 160 for about 90K

includes, dunbrody, Ballyhack, Duncannon, Loftus hall, and all the hook peninsula, ( incld. lighthouse).

We have also taken out a a large section of the new line and put u on very quite back roads

also an alteration to the 160 takes you off the busy tourist kilmore road and routes you through tacumshine and tomhaggard.

    these are prime improvements.

Thanks to Michael196 and all at Wexford Wheelers for a great, challenging sportive. Stuck with the 160 route mostly but had to call it quits after Wellington Bridge and cruise home along the Newline. Thankfully the rain stopped at around 35km and the wind was not as bad as expected.

    Hi Michael,

Great routes, I actually rode most if the 160 route, but skipped the last loop to Kilmore as I had to get home, but having the option was handy :-)

Route marking well done, some spectacular views along the coast and met some great characters along the way so all in all a great day. Definitely one for the diary for next year.

very disappointed that we could not go through Kilmore quay. that is particularly spectacular view of the sea and the Saltees, and today was a day when u could see them !!!

Hi Michael and all at Wexford Wheelers

Great work on a great route, well marked, plenty of options to shorten route if needed. Also very well priced which should help with more numbers next year. A joint venture with Kilkenny could even create a 2-day sportive supporting tourism in the south east.

I've been thinking about your remark about me getting an upgrade so next year I'll being something from the 60's! But still putting up signs with my max speed was a bit mean! PS. Must get my jacket and arm warmers out of that car!
