New car - twisted heater cable

I have a new car only 10 days old. The heating control switch only turns three quarter ways ... Didn't go at it as I didn't want to damage it ... Returned to dealer today and service girl tells me that they took off the relevant part if the dash to investigate it and it seems that the cable lever which is at the rear if the heater box is kinked... New part has to be ordered and now have to wait another 10 says after 3 hours hanging around today unfortunately the dealer is 60 miles each way .... I am very unhappy that the dash has been removed etc etc to establish the problem ... Having to go back again all the expense involved and hanging around ... The major reason I went new was the 3 year warranty for peace of mind ! I didn't expect to be back in just over a week ... I feel there should be some sort of recompense for the hassle .... Any views appreciated !!

and you got your warranty peace of mind. its an obscure part so will take while to obtain but it sounds like the garage are dealing with the problem as best they can.

it was your own oversight/ decision to buy a car from a dealership 60 miles away. do you want them to pick the car up from your house or what?

alternatively if there is a main dealer of the same franchise closer to your home, they will repair it for you also. this might be trickier now if you have already started a claim with the first dealer.

Ya pick up the car at my place would be reasonable in my view. Having said that they offered a car to take away and call back when repair is carried out next week or 10 days. So they are reasonable I suppose ... Takes a bit of the good out of it tho... I think they should throw on a service at least ...keep me happy as I intend to change it there again in two years .... Thanks for your quick reply . .

that's somewhat crazy to be fair.

and you turned down the courtesy car which kind of puts your own self out a bit as you have to wait on site for the car, both times.

takes the shine off your new motor no doubt, can't be blasting around flaunting your 132 reg :pac: but thats how most warranties work. it breaks, you take it back to them and they fix it. no free services thrown in etc.

Your right ! Sun stroke ! Offered the loan car at end of 3 hour wait ... Too late today ... But I will avail if it when part comes in ... Cheers and thanks for your common sense reply

I do as it happens. If you find a closer dealer they can fix it instead. The fact one started a claim means nothing. Call them and tell them you are getting it sorted closer to home.

That's nice ... The fact that the garage has started the claim makes it awkward to move to a nearer location . Will stay put.

the fact that one has started a claim means several things. not least of all it will extend the timeframe until which the car is fixed.

You asked for opinions and I gave mine. I don't think you'll get a free service.

    Best of luck.

If i had bought a brand new car id damn well expect it to be perfect.
Id be fuming in your situation.
The thought that the dash would have to come apart again and cables being messed around with would really annoy me on a brand spanking new car (im a bit of a perfectionist and the car would feel tainted) or id feel like i got a bad one.

    Thats just me though

I definitely think you should be entitled to some form of recompense. Even if its just another set of car mats.

Or you could assume that all manufacturing has faults that slip out sometimes. The OP is getting the car sorted and their only major grip is that they have to travel 60km to get it done, which was their own choice. I've heard of people having much bigger issues with new cars than a heater switch not fully turning.

Do people not think to check out something they are handing over a large some of money for? If it was me I'd treat it the same as a 2nd hand purchase and thoroughly inspect it before signing for it

To be fair, the dealer is getting it sorted, they get a minimal labour rate from the manufacturer to get the job done, they are offering you a courtesy car at their own expense. It takes the shine off the new car thing, and maybe as a goodwill gesture they could do something to keep you sweet.
For me, if they rectified the problem and gave me a courtesy car, that'd be enough.

Next step is how to wangle something out of them. kinda do the whole "i buy 2 new cars every 4 years" speech, "really dented my confidence in the brand" etc

I don't believe you're entitled to it as such, but there's no harm in chancing your arm.

I got her upgraded alloys and a few other bits when i got it for her ..I am happy enough with that .. They were good enough so happy enough ... I just think it would be a nice touch ... A little freebie ...

They know I upgrade every 24 months so I have it in my armoury for next change .. Please god !

having a warranty for peace of mind doesn't guarantee the thing wont go wrong, it guarantees they'll fix it if it does...you got what you paid for, and a goodwill offer of a courtesy car...good service in my book, not a reason to slag off the dealer

Who slagged off the dealer ? Didn't notice that ...? Yap offered car next visit ..... And at the end of visit yesterday which was nice but pointless ..

OK so not slagging off, but not hard to work out which dealer it is and it isn't helpful to their image.
