    Hi

I have a peugeot 407 1.6hdi 2005 at the moment - I'm considering getting rid of it and never considered going back to petrol but reading a thread below on peoples obsession with diesel it got me thinking.

Now I know really nothing about cars but I would like to go up to a 2008 and want to know would the savings of buying a petrol over a diesel initially be undone by the price of diesel and MPG.

I don't need a big engine as it's just me on the commute and I don't carry much stuff so just wondering what people's opinions are on this?

    Thanks

What kind of driving is your commute?

Diesel savings wont be huge compared to the additional purchase price. I'd be looking at a Passat/Golf/Octavia/Leon with the 1.4 tsi 122bhp engine if I was in your shoes.

My driving is done on country roads - standard irish - potholes and very windy - oldcastle, co meath to Trim, Co Meath Via Athboy.

I know those roads. A decent turbo petrol is the way to go
