northern irish car in the republic

im about to buy my first car a mini cooper 2002 , from some chap in belfast i live in kildare the car have a yellow registration plate ( british plates) do i have to change the plate to irish ones or can i leave it as is. because my father was saying i might but im not sure . if i do have to change the plates how much…

Expect to pay about one third of the irish value of that car to the government in order to get irish reg. It is compulsory to get irish reg.

And just remember when you're paying the 1/3 of the value, it's going to bail out poor bankers who may be suffering the utter humiliation of driving a 131-D S-Class instead of a 132.

Start filling that form in and it will give you an idea of what the VRT is gonna cost, be as specific as possible with the details to get an accurate quote..

From memory once you have the car you need to contact a VRT office (now in certain NCT centres, http://vrt.ie/vrtDetail.php?page=24)

Usually get a booking within a couple of weeks and takes less than an hour to do...
