Cronin_j pointed this one out to me. Omega-3 being linked to prostate cancer and high risk diseases. Have heard a lot of advocacy for omega supplementation for their anti-inflammatory effects. Will you be steering clear in light of this?

    I noticed this there,
“We’ve shown once again that use of nutritional supplements may be harmful,” he said.

what does he mean once again, is this the same fella that said creatine was steriods?

As a layman- would these findings be correlated with cultures that have, say, fish rich diets? Or is this a kind of french paradox thing?

They were debating this on Today FM this evening and though I only caught some of it, the opponent of omega 3 supplementation, who sounded to me like and academic from an American university, unbelievably declared that we should not consume that oil because fats cause obesity and, by extension, modern diseases. I nearly fell out of my chair. I literally could not believe that I heard somebody saying that fats, indirectly or otherwise, were the primary cause of the obesity problem. Surely there are more enlightened individuals they can get on these shows?

But it's not just bad news, its factually incorrect, or at least incomplete.

The NHS has a good site where they give a breakdown on health related headlines like this in the media

Here's their take on the Omega-3 story

Is this really a surprise though, isn't it well known that consumption of polyunsaturated fats should be kept below 4% of total calories or
    Something similar.

thanks for that. I think it's a pity about this:
The research did not look at the participants’ diets or whether they took omega-3 supplements.

    I know they also say
Still, it is unlikely that the high levels of these fatty acids found in the highest quartile would be the result of diet alone.

but I'd have liked to know if those with the high levels were ALL taking supplements and for those that were, how much fish oil they were taking.

This is bad science used to create a story. Welcome to the world of 24 hour news, its a load of horse manure, where the results are twisted into a story.
