See it in select theatres or in the privacy of your own home

Wast flicking through Apple trailers & there's a new one for "The Canyons" with Lindsey Lohan & I think a real male porn actor in his first mainstream role.

At the end of the trailer, it says "See it in select theatres or in the privacy of your own home".

It's not the first time I've seen it & I think it's becoming more frequent especially for lower budget movies.

I think I'd still prefer to see the bigger budget stuff on the big screen though... Thoughts ?

A cinema every time for me. It's just so much more captivating. I'm far more immersed when watching on the big screen.

Depends on the film tbh, ideally I'd love to see everything in the cinema but smaller scale stuff watched at home is fine. And if VOD means movies will get a bigger audience rather than struggling to find a home in the multiplexes then vanishing then it's all the better.

Encouraging to read this report about the Field in England multi-format release: http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2013/jul/10/field-england-tennis-box-office-uk

Cinema proved a big success despite playing in limited theatres in the middle of a heatwave / Wimbledon. Limited success on VOD and DVD/BR.

Personally, I admit I watched it on TV just because I didn't have the time to make it to the cinema at the weekend. But 99% of the time if I want to see a film, the cinema is the only option, whether that's a small indie release or a Hollywood production.

Going to the cinema is a pain for me because the nearest one is 30 miles away. I have a big 2M projector screen at home though so it's practically the same thing.

Home, purely because I can't get to the cinema.

Cinema, something about the atmosphere, the reaction of the other viewers to what's happening on screen, the smell. Love the whole experience.

Bit like going to a match vs watching it on TV. Watching on TV you get a much better view of all the action, but can't match the experience of actually being there.

Cinema, just too many distractions at home. Unless I watch a film after 1 o clock in the morning my attention just won't be there.

There's a reason The Canyons has that at the end, the film is supposed to be pretty much unwatchable and has been turned down by all the major festivals which considering the names involved says it all.

For me it all depends on the film. There are some films that need to be experienced on the big screen but quite a few that play better at home. I'm sure that if I lived somewhere where with access to a theater that played smaller indie films then I'd be of a different opinion but over the past 8 years the vast majority of smaller films I've experienced on my small screen. There's also a lot of films I love that take forever to be released over here so I end up importing them. I'd love to experience a Johnnie To film on the big screen but alas ive hadyo make do with DVDs and Blu-Rays.

One think I hate about watching a film with friends is that if we're watching it at home they cant seem to not fidget, play with their phones ir pause the film to get something. Now I'm all for a mid film cup of tea but most times I want to sit in silence for the duration of the film. If watching a film at home I'll put my phone on silent or turn it off.

Best thing about watching a movie at home for me, is the ability to have a beer :)

Having said that, with a couple of kids, viewing options are limited by the time we've got them to bed so we tend to go to the cinema
