I think Stepaside Lane - Village to Stop Sign is a pretty dull name considering just how steep it is.

Is there another name for this climb or can we give it one? Can segment names be changed?

I vote for 'the devil's armpit' as I think its sweatier than the devil's elbow.

I've only done it once. Nobody told me it was coming. Bastards.

How about "Lovely Flat Bit". That will ensure lolz.

    Horrid climb.

In Irish it's Lána na Céime / degree or phase / Angle Lane?

I'm sorry, but is that village really called "Stepaside"?

    You've never heard of it?

A couple of descriptions come to mind when I climb it, none of them suitable for here.

    how about "Granny Ring Road"?

I think it's a great climb. No faffing about with flat spots - just straight up in the most efficient manner.

It was the first climb we went up in the Boards Evil spin.. I heard some nasty words for bringing the people up there :p
You can call it "Shut up legs".

I've only climbed it once (despite it being less than 1km from home) and of course my garmin didnt record it! Suffice to say that would have been a KOM sure thing!

Almost overtaken by an old lady walking up it

To follow rock climbing tradition, the more something is described in inane pleasant terms, the worse it is.

i.e. Refreshing Classic Chimney means - you will spend four hours sweating and cramping profusely in constant terror for your life and even then you'll probably back off the crux and lie curled up at the bottom crying in relief.

By this logic I suggest, 'Zesty Sweetheart lane'

*The one time I went up this I did it on my hybrid back when I was starting off, at some point I recall I got off and walked as I had just started using SPDs and was terrified of doing a side topple followed by a long humiliating descent on my face.

    Nope!

I'm just after realising how steep that hill actually is, after comparing to another hill not far from me.

Patrick's Hill in Cork City is the only thing I can compare to it, though I haven't cycled it. Hits 24% at its steepest.

EDIT: never mind, it's not even comparable :D

Good few Boardsies in the leaderboard.

Highest grade is 20% I think but mostly it stays around 12%. Also it's short.

I'm not on Strava so I can't post a link but Carrigrohane road (just beyond the Anglers Rest) would be comparable - https://maps.google.ie/maps?hl=en&ll=51.898714,-8.575886&spn=0.000935,0.001725&t=h&z=19

Im a native, it was Stepaside Hill before google got involved. Ive only gone up once on the bike, too close, i need more than a 30 second warmup.
