    hi
im having trouble with my gears. my bike is a trek mountain bike.

about 2 weeksago, my gear cable snapped (front derailleur), and i replaced it.

then i tried tuning the gears, with help from youtube, but the grear transitions were never right. some slippage, not smothe transitions, or front grear not moving from 1st to 2nd until gear switch is in 3rd slot.....

ive dropped it in to two bicycle shops, both have claimed it to be fixed, but when i take it for a cycle, im experiencing the same issues as before.
(one bicyle shop was a small local business, the other, a multinational)

im going to bring it back to the multinational tomorrow, and get them to re-do it.....

but how hard is it, surely some one who owns a bike shop should be able to fix it.

am i right in thinking, that what ever position the chain is on in the rear derailleur, that the front derailleur should be able to move between gears 1 to 3 seamlessly??

    any advice appreciated.
    thanks

not necessarily. Depending on how much freedom (set by limit screws) the derailleur has, it may not upshift if the rear is on 1-3. If that's the only issue, I'd leave it. Cross chaining, largest cig front and rear, is bad for the chain anyway

    Hi Ryder

I’ll check that tonight, regarding the changing of the front gears from 1-3 with the back cog in a position of 4 or higher to see if it will change to 3rd gear

    thanks
