Some sort of scam?

A car just pulled up into my estate outside the neighbours house.

Some bloke got out and started to take photos, as in you would do to sell the car. And then drove off.

Any ideas why? Some sort of car selling scam?

Sounds like a little bit of it.

The reports of car park beatings to get money off potential buyers lately.

Any chance you may have gotten the reg off the photographers car?

    No.
Thought I was being a bit parnoid.
Then when he left, I started thinking how it made no sense.

my aunt was looking to sell her car the other week, she was away on holidays.

i drove up to her house with my missus, took a few photos of her car, hopped straight back into my car and drive off again.

perfectly legit, probably looked weird to an onlooker though :)

Sounds perfectly fine to me.. Some people often take photos in certain places to make it the right photo.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it OP.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I got the impression they were taking pics of the neighbours car.

If it was his own car then it doesn't sound that dodgy.

my aunt was looking to sell her car a few weeks ago. i told her i would put it on donedeal for her while she was on holidays.

i drove to her house with the missus one evening while she was away, around 8 or 9 o clock in the evening, got out of my car, strolled around hers on the side of the road, took several photos, hopped straight back into my car and drove away.

    harmless :)

The way I read it is that somone the OP didn't know or recognise pulled up to a neighbours house, hopped out of the car and took pictures of the neighbours car.

Now I would see this as dodgy. Have you said anything to the neighbour?

No just pulled outside the house in HIS car and took pictures and drove off.

Why not outside his own house?

Maybe he didnt want his house to be identified in case he plans on meeting potential buyers at a neutral venue.

Cant see how a this could lead to a scam really.

Honestly, don't worry about it. There are any number of potentially valid reasons for his actions.

Often when I am selling a car, will drive to the industrial estate so there are fewer distractions around and I have more space to work with. Failing that, I will drive to a section of my road where there is lots of space and this would look strange to those who may not know me. OP the guy that pulled up may come from a scummer area and wanted to take photos if his car in a posh area ;)

Ah that changes things! So he took pics of his own car. Do you live in a nice area with clean houses/surrounding areas? Maybe he just lives in a rougher area or just wanted a nice background for the pics of his car if he is indeed selling it. Maybe keep an eye in the "Post a picture of your car" thread in case it turns up there too!

Well the person with the car could be aware that the house is empty during working hours and use it pull off a scam.
They could come back when buyers get in touch, pretend they live there and take a deposit on the car then disappear leaving the buyer coming knocking at innocent persons door.
