Available speed for broadband problems

    I had a phone line installed recently, I then rang about getting broadband last week and was told my line was only capable of 3mbps speeds. 

    Today a Vodafone rep called to my house and told me that the exchange in our area had been upgraded on the 20th of June and my line was able to get 20meg broadband.

    I'm a bit confused as to what's going on. How can Vodafone have more up to date information that you guys? I would love a bit of clarity on this and would like to know what speeds my line is capable of.
