How are people filling in the extra hours? Are you doing more of the same job that you have always been doing or have you been assigned different work outside of what you always do. Sorry, I am not explaining this very well, but hopefully people get the drift.

Also have you been asked, formally or otherwise, to quantify how the extra work you are doing during the extra hours will help bring about cost savings?

    Thanks

I'm doing 15 mins extra each side of my day 4 days a week. We arent allowed to make the time up during lunch :(
In my Dept. a lot of people only took 30 mins anyway just to cover the workload so now theyre being told thats fine but we still need an extra 2 hours a week from you. One guy in my area was doing 4-5hrs unpaid a week an because they wont let him include lunchtime , hes reduced that to 2 hours. Management think they have the equivalent of an extra person in my Dept. when in fact the extra time was already being done unpaid.

I'm luckly in that my boss is flexible so this week I'm coming in early and taking my full lunch and going at 5pm. But once the sun goes away I'll probably add 15 mins to morning and take 15 mins off lunch.

The irony is that I do about 5 hours a week unpaid overtime anyway, so now I just do 3 hours unpaid overtime. They aren't actually getting any additional work off me.

You're assuming that many people have a lack of work and would need to be assigned more to fill in the hours. I'm sure there are some like that but most in my dept. are snowed under with work and an extra 5 hours a week from each wouldn't cover it because of all the staff shortages.

Haven't be asked to quantify it though, that would be interesting.

I work in Dublin but live in Meath and so far am finding it a pain. We don't officaly have flexi in our department, still on pilot in a few offices, am lucky that my office is one that has it but can't start until 8.30am, before I was starting between 9am-9.30am and heading home at 5pm, now I start at 8.30am and leave at 5pm, have to say am knackered with the early start, but because the 5pm bus is express I have to get this one as the later buses can take between 1.5 hours to 2 hours. I am planning to look for a transfer to another department that has flexi, I also took on a 2nd job in April working couple hours a week in the evening but this is very hard to do now with the extra hours.
