Details of Leinster R/R Champs 2013

    Sun Aug 25th
    Venue Dunlavin
    Time 11.00am
    Promoted by Cycling Leinster
There will be 3 races on the day on the 24km circuit.[Kevin Mc Inerney Mem circuit
The A4 only race will be 3 x laps [72km] and is a non championship race as A4 is designated by Cycling Ireland as a non championship category

The A3/Jun/Woms race will also be 3 x laps [72km]with Leinster Gold,Silver, and Bronze medals to the three different categories plus team medals if the requirements are met for them.
The A1/A2/Vets race will be 4 x laps 96km] and again there will be Gold,Silver, and Bronze in each category plus team medals.
Before anybody has a go at me re the vets, the situation is as followss
There are lots of vets who are either A1 or A2 and therefore could not ride in the A3 race.So a vet who is A3 and wants to be eligible for a vets medal will have to ride the A1/A2/Vets championship. Its the only realistic way we can run it as everybody can be included this way.
For the past few yrs the Eddie Tobin race in Bunclody has doubled as the Leinster champs. This yr it will be a stand alone event and in essence is an extra race on the calender.Because it is being run by the committee and not a club, offers of help re stewarding, driving etc would be most welcome.More info to follow nearer to the time.
Also it has been agreed to run a 3 stage league at the end of the season to replace the old midweek Leinster 3 day. These races will be on 3 Saturdays on Aug 31st,Sept 14th,and 21st.It should extend the racing season somewhat.First one of these has been provisionally fixed for Donadea,Co Kildare.

Those eligible to ride must meet one of the following

1 be a member of a Leinster registered club
    2 Reside in the province
3 Unattached but have Leinster noted on your licence
4 Be a member of an overseas team but your last Irish address was in Leinster

There would be riders who would be eligible to compete in a few different provincial champs e g reside in one province and ride with a club in another.
The important factor here is that you may only ride one provincial champs in any one season so if you have already competed in another provine you cant ride this one.

let me be the first to ask awkward vets questions wav1 ;-)

will the vets medals be awarded to the first 3 unplaced vets?

I presume your CI licence must say 'VET' to be considered for the vet's race, or are we talking about the UCI Masters category here (+50 yrs I think).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 872 ✭✭✭smurphy29

Ah great, had it in my head this cut off at A3 for some reason. Delighted to see the season extend into September also. Joy unconfined! Will the A4s have their own races in the Leinster league, or are they handicap chases?

This looks like the course. And what a course!

I'm sure wav1 will have definitive answers, but when I did the Leinster TT champs last year I had to choose which catehgory I was taking part in

As I understand it the vets category in Ireland is for riders who will be aged 40 or over at the end of this calendar year - UCI Masters categories kick in at 35 I believe

Cycling Ireland lic will have to have the vet category
The Gold,Silver, and Bronze will be awarded to the first three vets OVER THE LINE in the A1A2/Vets race.Any A3 vet who wants to be eligible for a medal
has to ride the A1/A2 race as we cant bring the vets who are A1 A2 back down so the A3s will have to move up.A3 vets can opt to ride the A3/Jun/Womans race and be eligible for an A3 medal.Hope all this makes sense.

I wondered about that - Track Masters events start at 35 so I went with that ...

Can non Leinster based A4's (club or otherwise) take part in the A4 race, since its non championship or do the same rules apply as mentioned in post #2

Unfortunately a bit of bad news on this one folks. These Championships are now deferred to Sun Sept 22nd at the same venue.Following a meeting last night and due to a number of reasons which i will try to explain in a minute, this decision was taken.
Firstly for one reason or other there are a lot of the people needed to run the event missing on other duties that weekend. It takes about 25/30 staff including drivers and marshalls to do it right and this couldn't be guaranteed.
Theres also a clash with the Nat Youth Champs which would take away a lot of the technical staff such as comms and photo finish.I can only apologise for this deferral and would like to say that they will DEFINITELY go ahead on the new date, when we will have a full compliment of crew,to put on a proper Championship event. To be honest i feel bad about this, and can only apologise again.I contacted some people this morning about the possibility of maybe rescheduling one of the Leinster based events, that were cancelled earlier in the season, but i'll have to wait and see on that one.

Well riders themselves will have to make the choice.A week longer on the road or week earlier in the muck.Theres no other slot available between the origanal date and new date, with Nat Track champs,St Tiernans race etc.

Hi Wav1. Can you confirm please if this event will be going ahead on Sept 22nd. at 1 pm as per previous posts. The reason I ask is that there is currently no entry in the CI calendar and so I wondered if the event might now be cancelled altogehter ?

    Thanks

Grand, because I think an A4 race has to be over 50km to award points to top 8.
