Radio Studio in Dundrum Town Centre

I noticed in Dundrum today that the sign beneath the RTE radio studio (displaying the names of the RTE stations) had gone and had been replaced by a screen displaying the logos and slogans of all the Communicorp stations eg. SPIN, 98fm, Phantom, Newstalk among others.

Have RTE sold the studio and has it been taken over by Denis O'Brien's stations?

Or do RTE still run/use the studio and the screen below is just for advertising?

I doubt RTE owned it in the first place. These studios are nearly always provided by the centre owner in return for advertising.

It would appear that contract has now gone to Communicorp.

Dundrum own the studio 'pod' (which I always thought was a crap design since you can't see inside from any angle), and paid for its original construction.

RTE supplied the studio equipment though, including a Studer desk that RTE have standardised on; strange that it's still there - Communicorp have obviously taken everything over since the RTE contract expired.

I remember Eamonn Lawlor of Lyric saying that he used to edit the Lyric concert every day from that studio

It's been a while since RTÉ used it... Communicorp took it over just over 3 weeks ago.

I was talking to a Communicorp staffer a few weeks ago. The studio is effectively an RTE regional studio and is digital and fitted with high end equipment in comparison to normal off site and OB set ups. It supports actual live music playback on site, full off air audio editing and even allows the home studio desk settings to be used depending on which radio station is on air at a given time.

They have also arranged for live piping of the studio output around the shopping centre and a big screen to display their station logos. Fun times ahead :)

I wish they didn't do that! I was told by one of their service desk personnel that that's why they can't put on the big screen's speakers for the match commentary anymore.

So essentially RTE have spent a few hundred thousand euros of public money kitting out the studio with state of the art equipment only to walk away from it ? I hardly think Dundrum shopping centre paid for the fit out. Anyone know ?

Dundrum did pay for the fit out, but not for the equipment.

Dundrum paid for the equipment as well.
