    Hi,

I bought an 02 GTi recently and it came with only 1 key.

Whats my cheapest option for getting another key cut. It does not need to be remote as hopefully I wont lose the key/fob remote I have but I need a spare just in case.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

The Misses has a 2002 Golf, Not a GTI however I believe the Key has a chip in it.

Do you plan to use the spare key for in case of an emergency to drive the car or just a spare key to open the doors?

in case I lost the original I would need it to drive the car yeah. So does that mean i will have to get it coded etc

I would believe so. The golf keys the misses have are funny though...

Her key and fob are separate... Though taking apart her key I believe there is a chip inside..

Based on my own findings, I would safely bet that you will need to pay for coding/whatever the process is to have a key that will allow you to us the car as well.

For assistance anyway - http://www.adverts.ie/car-motorbike-boat-services/car-keys-cut-coded/654809 - Get a quote from this fella..

I've no idea where you are based and a google search got this guy.

Give autokey Dublin a ring or similar they shouldn't be to expensive to supply cut and code a key as you don't need it to open the car remotely. You can get a quote of a main dealer too but I'd imagine autokey would be similar. I got a genuine ford key for a focus of autokey supplied cut and coded for 60 quid I certainly couldn't get it cheaper than that anywhere else. Main Dealer wanted 180 euro for same key

You could pop the chip out of the key and glue it to the steering column. Then cut a normal key with no chip. Then the RFID reader is happy
