    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good free app for iPhone which I can use at any driving range to calculate how far I'm hitting it please ?

    Thanks,

I dont know of anything that will measure the distance on a driving range really only laser

Most apps or GPS units measure on the basis that you press the "go" button where you hit your shot, physically walk up to the ball as you would on the course and then press "stop" and it measures the distance between the two points. You cant exactly walk out onto the driving range after every shot to measure your distance

laser would probably be the best option. Wouldn't fancy walking out on a range even if it was empty!!

Do you think there something up with the distances indicated?

Have you access to any land? You could set up your own "range" and measure some of your shots.

Not sure what the OP says, but for measuring between landmarks you can use google maps and select two (or more) points at it will tell you the distance between then, its how Swing By Swing GPS works.
The satellite view will show the range and targets, assuming they are not too recent, google extra/labs enables the measuring device.

I would have thought that using google maps would be miles out but just checked the distances at my local range and they are surprisingly close!!

That's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks Greebo.

Likewise I always had my own doubts about my local range, but just double checked in Google Earth, and was surprised how accurate it was to check the distance markers, within 2 yards +-
Must be the golf courses I play in have their markers set to longer, as I hit 200+ yards with a 5 wood in Driving range and lucky to get 190 on a course ;)

Doubters, did you think the range markings were longer than they actually were?
Greebo, know there was a wink there but it's thrown me, I would have thought that people generally thought the markings were on the long side.
Ie someone driving short of 250 thinking those measurements must be out

If this was the case, a lot could be put down to the concrete things with range printed on them.

If you're getting the same or less distance on the course... Stop stealing the balls from the range :)

    Edit
It took me a year at the range before I confirmed that my assumption that the measurements were in meters was indeed incorrect: they're were in yards :(

We do look very a like :)

For me I think I'm just more relaxed in driving range and able to hit further, on the course sometimes anything can happen.
