BMW 316 bootlock question

    I have a 2004 BMW 316.
Today the warning light on the dash showed the boot as being open, but when I checked it, it had locked and wouldn't open even with the rest of the doors unlocked.
The only way to open it was with the key.
Any suggestions what the problem might be? I am guessing a problem with the "button/switch" for the boot lid?

I would check the switch that checks when the boot it closed, from memory (but i'm not 100%) this is built into the lock. I would guess that the software wouldn't unlock the boot as it thought it was already open.

I would check the boot closed switch, but my guess is that it would be the wiring going from the boot lid to the body, could well be a broken wire in there...
