Baler Knives

The knives on our round baler are sticking when I try to engage them. They disengage fine, but when engaged, some stick on the way up. I've ran the mechanism without any knives insert and it appears to work fine.

Does anyone encounter this problem with their round baler and are the knives worn out or is there another possible cause or indeed remedy?

    Thanks.

are you sure one of the knives isnt hitting a rotor on the way up, one of knives might be bent, if its working without knives then it must be one of them, try it with a few in, maybe keep adding in some till you come across the problem and just get rid of that knife?

The knives aren't hitting the rotor - they seem to be jamming when partially raised up through the slot. If they are hit a quick tap then they release and fully rise. When down there are free and there is plently of slack in them. However, when they jam they are solid and a tap to the back of the knive with a hammer releases them up to full height.

It is not one knive and it is not one slot this seme to be affecting across the full breadth of the intake. Af ew work, but many are sticking.

    hydraulic pressure issue maybe?

Don't think so - we took out all the knives and the mechanism seems to be working fine. It seems more like something is blocking the knives from rising - as if they are gettign lodged against something and only a quick tap with a hammer will free them and they rise with a bang into position. The noise a speed of this rise make me believe that pressure is not an issue.

What kind of baler is it? We have a Deutz MP235 and it was always a hammer and nailbar job to get the kinves up in it. I always thought the chopper was a poor system in it in general, in fact it doesn't bale silage at all anymore. We also have a Welger 235 which has a much better chopper and therefore bales all the silage.
