Addicted to my phone?

Hi, I'm aware this probably isnt as serious an issue as some here, but I think I'm addicted to using my phone.

I got an iphone a year ago and literally spend hours on it a day. Messing about with games, the internet, reddit, texts etc. I find it hard to concentrate for long periods of time on other things and constantly check my phone for no good reason.

I find its great for checking emails and work things, but I could live without that aspect. I've thought about getting a cheap old phone that doesnt access the internet, but then I wonder if I could stay away from the iphone. Also I'm on a plan that I pay monthly for unlimited data and to get a cheap phone and not be using the plan I'd feel like I'm throwing money away.

Has anyone had this kind of problem and managed a way to deal with it? I'm aware it sounds ridiculous...

It does sound like an addiction. All I can suggest is go cold turkey- perhaps don't turn your phone on at all at weekends- just get out, enjoy the weather, enjoy life- and forget about your phone. On Sunday night- set your alarm, and slip your phone into your pocket on Monday morning. I used love my phone (I still do)- its in my coat in the hall, and I couldn't care less whether it rings or not. I've cooking to do- and I've two little ones demanding my attention. They are my first concern. After they go to bed- I'll water my plants, and perhaps have a glass of wine- and only just before I go to bed, I'll check to see if I've any texts or missed calls that I should respond to.

There are far more important things in life than a lifeless piece of metal- even if it is a remarkable device.

I would agree, cold turkey is the way to go to break this habit. When I went on holiday this year, I left it in the hotel room for most of the time I was away. Only checked it a couple of times a day. Quite liberating to be honest.

Just let the battery go out on it and forget about it for a while. You will think you are missing out on stuff but it's actually ok after a while. I went 8 days last year without a phone after my iphone was stolen.
