They sure can be, can be expensive as well - depends on what you fix your gaze on

You can get a decent jacket in riverisland for €80 upwards, source a pair of trousers, shirt, shoes, socks and tie in Dunnes/Pennies,

Cheap Suit's always look cheap and crap lol, Don't bother buying a cheap suit, better no suit than a cheap suit...
Just purchase a good suit, it will be worth it.

Because half a grand is a "cheap suit" alright

If you want quality and style, 500 is still cheap(ish). A suit for a few hundred will last many years.
If you want dirt cheap just go shop in Saint Vincent de Paul on Merchant's Rd.

Or, you know, you could just get a normal one for under 150 in Marks & Spencer because spending half a thousand euro and scrambling through second hand clothes in a charity shop aren't the only two options here.

You seemed to have focused on the wrong part of my sentence then, i'll requote it below and highlight the part I wanted you to focus on, if you had you would have seen that I did acknowledge your contribution, if only it could have been done so without having a dig at another poster in the process.

Suits are one thing you really get what you pay for. Any cheap rubbish from the likes of marks and spencers for 150 euro will be noticed a mile away as being cheap in comparison to spending even around 3 to 400 euro or so euro and getting a suit from a proper suit manufacturer.

Hanley's is the place I'd recommend to start your search, it's where I've gotten all my suits so far.

Lally Menswear beside Lynch's Castle have suits for around €100.

There must be (I hope I hope I hope) some people in the world who never have to wear a suit. Maybe the OP is one. So if they have to wear one for some unexpected occasion, they don't want to spend a lot of money on something they might wear only once or twice. 300 - 500 euro might seem cheap to some, but would be a whole lot of money to others.

I got a suit for 70 in burton in the terryland shopping center. It was on sale but there are 2 shops there that both tend to have suits on sale often.

Fwiw I went to Suit retail and got a good fitted suit for a good price. Would recommend them.

I bought a River island suit off of asos.com a few weeks ago as I was going to Vegas (:D) I spent £95 on it and I was absolutely delighted with the quality and comfort. I also got many compliments on the suit so I was delighted.

The suit I got was the River island John suit (slim)

Here is a link to the different styles:

I hope the mobile link works for you.

Unless youre wearing it to work everyday then paying 400+ is nonsense unless youre into your labels, a one off suit is perfectly fine from any major retailer as long as its clearly not just a 'chape' ball of sh1te.

The last time I wore a suit was for my communion. For anything else 'fancy' or 'respectful' I just picked any mix and match that suited the occasion.

In fairness suggesting 500euro is taking the pee a little seeing as the OP hasn't said what he needs it for. He did say 'CHEAP SUIT' in the title.

More money it's likely you'll get better material (this can be said for any type of clothing or footwear it's not exclusive to suits) but you certainly won't get better fits on off the rack suits. You'll only notice cheap materials up close but if the fit is off it's much more obvious. €300-€400 is still in the mass market off the rack suit price bracket so to say they are miles better than high street is pushing it.

Just buy one OP that fits you best within your budget and if it needs a bit of tweaking a Taylor can do that for you.

    +1

OP - Definitely try the charity shops - I recently bought a jacket for a fancy dress party in the SVP shop on Merchants Rd. They had a few suits and jacket / trouser combinations, and were a lot better quality than expected.

Hanley's is the place I'd recommend to start your search, it's where I've gotten all my suits so far.

I'd second Hanelys. Hanley had a good variety in lots of sizes, good value considering the quality, and a good / comfortable fit. I've gotten lots of compliments from the stuff I've purchased there.

I've encountered items of dubious quality at Ryan's before so really scrutinize any purchases from there.

I might be wrong, but a budget of 350-500 is about right for a proper wool suit and that's taking advantage of sales. Wool won't have that cheap sheen like polyester, is breathable, and naturally anti-bacterial. On a hot day like today, you wouldn't want to be wearing any other type of suit.

    Don't. Just don't.

If the occasion really needs a suit (eg your wedding) then save up for it and get a decent one.

Otherwise go in mix-and-match whatever, rather than making a fool of yourself in something cheap.

    Recently bought this suit OP

Word it to a bachelors thing, and there wasnt a single person that didnt aske me where i got it.

It fit perfectly it feels great and looks modern and extremely stylish.

I recently spent near 200 Euro having my other suits tailored so im pretty confident i know what a good fitting suit feels like.

You dont need to be spending 500 Euros. You can go reasonably lower and have sutbtle alterations made to make the suit perfect.

    Best of luck.

Try Greenes menswear in Woodquay, you can get a good suit in there for around €200.

I'd completely disagree, I think if you wear a suit every day you will need a few and they will get worn out every so often so i would be inclined to spend less on suits for regular use. If you are buying a suit for weddings, interviews etc that will be kept for good occasional use only this is the suit I'd spent money on as it will last much longer and be used for important events.

You will definitely get a better fitting suit by trying a number of different suits and finding the right one in the 300+ price range than any generic suit from a high street retailer imo. However I agree that spending 500 euro on a suit will still only get you a good one rather than a very good one, as soon as I am in a position to do so I will be getting a tailored suit as I think having a very good suit is something worthy of spending money on as a it stands out a mile away.

Certainly not if your tall and slim and i tried all the stores in Galway. In fact it was a sales assistant in Hanleys that told me i would get a much better fitting suit in the high street stores. Most of the high street stores suits are cut towards a slim cut which suits this body type. Louis Copeland were trying to sell me an €800 Paul Smith slim cut suit that didn't fit anywhere near as good as one i picked up in River Island.

The suit company in Briarhill are really affordable. Decent cut, they'll take care of adjustments (trouser leg ete.) and everything

Is that the fellas across from KFC, in Briarhill Business Park?
I was at another shop there today but saw some adverts posted as I was driving in.
    Might have a look myself.

Yes, if we're taking about the same place, beside the coffee place in the same 'estate' as the wild nettle café and the new simon shop

If it's any help I see the Outlet Shop on Rosemary Avenue (between Dunnes and Roches) has suits for 99euro.
As stated earlier I know nothing about suits but they look ok on the manaquins (sp?) in the window.
