    Hi folks,

for the last week or so we have been getting a smell(as per thread title) which seems to materialise late at night and is there all night and is really "ripe" in the kitchen in the morning. We vent as much as possible then and it is usually gone on returning to the house in the evening. We have tried the usual solutions down the showers/sinks etc to no effect yet.I have checked the drains plus all sink holes in the house and no blockages I can see.

About ten/twelve years ago we got a smell in kitchen but that proved to be a blockage in the drain outside kitchen window. I rodded that and cleared it fully. There is nothing there this time.

FYI We are in this house around 15 years.

Phoned the plumber who said if there were no blockages/leaks there would be no point in him coming round.

Can anyone offer any suggestion? thanks!

dont forget the drain behind washing machine could be the culprit

if yur washing machine / dishwasher is connected into the kitchen trap. you could have a problem with water seal in trap been empty. (i find this a common problem).

the reason why it only smells at certain times. (late at night and morning) siphonage is a problem with them traps.

saved marriage over it once. husband was moving out. if the smell wasnt gone.
