FR4332 Diverting to Dublin

FR4332 (MAN - TFS) seems to be diverting to Dublin. Currently burning fuel over Meath with landing gear down.

Been watching this circling over my house for the past hour or so.
Any ideas why?

It's odd since if you look at FR24 it seems the decision to divert was taken not long after take off.

Swinging south now for EIDW, anyone know whats going on?

1) gear down, increases drag which increases fuel burn which gets you down to a lower landing weight faster below max landing weight, this aircraft will have had a heavy fuel load to fly to Tenerife.

2) the route to Tenerife from Man is out towards Dublin and then south through less congested airspace to Portugal. It doesn't necessarily indicate an early decision to divert.

We usually bring them closer to the airfield as they advise they are nearly ready to land. That last orbit could be for delay. They may have said they might block the runway and we sometimes get a few extra aircraft in to reduce the disruption or potential of a diversion of other aircraft.

Thompson flight now leaving MAN for Canary Islands, so people can get an idea of the route and at least guestimate the point of diversion.

The diversion was due to an engine indication as their currently on a engine run in dub. Pax still on board.

Sorry andyg, stupid question: engine run sounds like running it at full speed with brakes on. Would that mean an engine was shut down mid flight or am I way off?

Nope not a stupid question at all, its still on stand so it will be an engine run at idle to run some tests.

Don't think it was as it operated to/from Liverpool before Manchester.

Back in the air. Nightmare for passengers. Over 4 hours on the aircraft already. Will fly over my house in Tenerife at approx. 03.15. May they travel safely.

Ah feck no.:D Back in Ireland for a few weeks for work, but really got interested in aviation when all these planes flew over my house at a few hundred feet approaching TFS. I hate flying but have to do it. Enjoy reading this forum though.

Don't blame you loving it all. I'm the same now. I keep saying I should start videoing all the stuff that flies over my house. I see GAs all the time. Before I moved out there, I'd never seen one apart from the web and being on a few. Watching it from the ground is a lot different!

Yeah, but look at how many planes are in the air at any point. Statistically it's incredibly safe (esp when you consider the weight and amount of fuel on modern aircraft that soar through the blue). It's sad that accidents happen. Hope everyone has survived the crash at San Fran.

I know you are right. I watch Air Crash Investigation too much! Then I go and move to a place that had massive air accidents in the 70s! But I still fly. You just have too. Got to know some RYR pilots based out there too. They have no sympathy for my fears!!

I know. No doubt 99.9% of those birds will land with no problems at all. But...what i'm saying is (well for me anyhow) the thought is always there.
