If you haven't signed a declaration to say that it was off the road then you owe from the last time that it was taxed.

You will have to back tax to may or if is the case ( but I don't think so) prove it was bought later. 'We the people' don't believe it was off the road until May.....

You should read the sticky outlining the transition period Jul-Sep and you'll see that this is not correct. An RF100a can still be completed now to cover the period up until May if the car was genuinely off the road (although the Nov stop would provide weighty evidence that this may not be accepted).

you owe for oct and nov.(and you should pay dec too)..you can declare it off road for the rest, (provided it WAS off the road...if you lie and they catch you out, you'll have to pay it all.)

Car should have been crushed, you'll have shard time declaring it off the road if you were caught driving it. It'll be in pulse and no Garda will sign it.
If you have a partner you could try transfering ownership to them and that way you'll avoid having to pay back taxes.

Had a fella tell me yesterday he hasn't taxed van in 4 years proud as punch

Really makes me feel remorseful every time I pay 360+ tax for three months

Cops at checkpoints always seem surprised and almost dissapointef when they walk straight past vans to my car and its in date.

    Ahh ireland

I said if no declaration has been signed (as in at no time between October and now has the car been declared off the road) then tax is due back to October. Whats incorrect about that? Is there some sort of amnesty that Im not aware of?

You need to read the sticky; up until now such declarations only had to be made when the car was being put back on the road and/or could be made to cope with arrears from a stated date only but this is changing to a declaration in advance system (such as is implied by your post). There is a transitional period in which a declaration of past non use can still be made.

Well the OP has been caught using the car since the tax was out, so I wouldnt have thought making a retrospective declaration of non-use would be a very good idea?

On topic if you want to pay what's due just ring your local tax office Monday with accurate information and they will give you the correct figure.

Personally I think your Car should have been taken and crushed as the law is either enforced or not. One law for one man and another for the next just makes a joke of the system bad and all as it is. Which leads to rates just going up for people who pay while those who choose not to pay couldn't care regardless.

    Best of luck with it

not to make excuses but i had a legitimate reason for no tax up to may. I do intend to pay off any arrears etc as its only fair. I've been caught. called the station so now going to have vehicle released and towed where itll sit for two weeks,
while i gather up arrears money.
This car was not used between December and may as i had a different car while this one was restored

The system clearly works if they caught me?

I thought you had to tax it before they'd release it or is that insure it?
