How can man who knew about child abuse and did nothing, stood on a stage in Galway in 1979 with 2 hyprocrites ,Cleary and Casey and did not kick them out of the church, now be a saint????
It's a mystery to me anyway!

Mother Teresa is a saint, I wouldn't really give it much credit.

    Well its religion.
Its supposed to be a mystery.
And what do you expect a hypocritical organisation to do, but honour one of their best servants.
    At least they're consistant

It's a PR gimmick I would say,JP2 was such a popular guy and all.

The last step of canonisation is the funny one, the "St" step requires the person to have done at least two miracles.

I'd love for someone to explain that bulls*it to me and what miracles John Paul performed. His face probably appeared on a slice of toast somewhere and the person ate it before showing or telling anyone.

The whole thing is a farce anyway. I can never understand how people gets so excited by it all.

In a world where Nelson Mandela and Barack Obama have a nobel peace prize, is John Paul being made a saint any surprise? People like to focus an a specific picture with these people. With Jean Paul, they talk about his role during the Cold War, or being an opponent to dictatorships like Pinochet's or just because he's always been portrayed in a positive light. That's what his supporters will do, and that's how the world works. The child abuse scandals will be ignored unfortunately.

A saint? For being part of a cover up of child abuse he should have been jailed.

Its all noncesce, the lot of it. This stuff shouldn't be getting any credence from intelligent people. Spoiler alert ....... Cinderella wasn't real either and no carriage turned into a pumpkin after 12pm. Fcuking lulas the lot of them.

But his god is forgiving so it's all fine and dandy.

The fact he was never arrested must be one of them "miracles" that got this laughable, voodoo bull$hit "sainthood"

Make America Get Out of Here

You mean there's more than one?

It is a sign of recognition. The guy managed to conceal years of abuse, tens if not hundreds of abusers, while increasing the Church's profits. Of course it's a miracle!

I honestly couldn't give a shit. Had to laugh earlier reading the comments section of a news article about this. It was filled with atheists arguing against the fact that he should have been made a saint.

Honest answer, I think its just a publicity stunt by the catholic church to deflect more attention away from the abuse scandals. Get a recent familiar figure, i.e John Paul, and fast track him to sainthood on the back of spurious, unverifiyable claim of a miracle attributed in his name. Bingo Positive publicity and the delusional masses lap it up. Its all gone long beyond a joke. Thankfully more and more people are seeing through these shenanigans these days.

As Fr Ted might say "Down with that sort of thing"

    Such a shame.

This highlights that the church still doesn't understand what it did.

If this Polish prick was not not a paedophile himself then at the very least he put his corrupt organization before the rights and needs of the children that he was fully aware were being and had been abused, if there is a hell he will roast in it as will those who defend him and those like him.

what exactly did he do to become a saint??

its not like he found a cure for cancer

he did next to nothing about the child abuse scandals, he wouldn't budge on the issue of contraception despite the aids epidemic that was engulfing the world..if anything he turned the tide of the liberal wing within the catholic church making it more conservative

i mean we're talking about a man who believed in gaurdian angels ffs,

You mean to say that there is at least one single case of a verifiable miracle anywhere, ever, in all of history? ;)

Did he not say that gay rights like same sex marriage etc were a “new ideology of evil”?

    Stay classy, lads.

unlikely i think. But if you cannot prove something to be completely false and there is a shortage of skeptics/critical thinkers in the world, i guess you can get away with making any kind of claim, along as it cannot be proven to be false. These vatican boyos have got some audacity, you have to give them that.
